No comment on whether the boat is suitable, but you are giving your insurance company a way out of any claim

ok, the issue i have is this.....

i have a yammy 2 stroke 50 hp short shaft, i need a long shaft. Had a quote of about £400-£500 to convert to long so just trying to weigh up options as I have the chance of buying a mariner 55 hp 2 stroke

This guy had an over powered engine .......he told his insurance company .

They didn't have a problem until he needed to claim - then they investigated the HP/ weight rating for his specific boat - then they refused to pay.

Insurers don't know the HP rating of each boat they insure - they'll only look into it if there is a claim - when its too late .....

The Yammy conversion kit is not that expensive. Look at bay manufacturing in the USA, if you are confident or know someone who can do the job, it may let you keep the 50.

I have always said the same... if insurers can get out of paying a claim they will do. You should get it in writing if they say otherwise.

Last time I contacted Bay Manufacturing they took two weeks to get back to me. Something about the email address on their site?? Might be worth a speedy call to check first. Also marineparts.com stocks their stuff, usually better to go direct for the cheapest price.

Used to run a Zodiac Pro with a Yamaha 40hp 2-stroke. Searched for a couple of years for a mint 50G model, but they're favoured by the commercial fishing community, so gave up looking as they very rarely come on the market.

The 40hp is an excellent engine, but if you have the 50hp one, then hang on to it, especially if can get the Bay kit.
