on my 585 I use generally 12mm for ease of handling + plenty of strength.
Painter -5m - shorter than the boat
2 x 12mm lines 4m port and starboard from A-frame as aft mooring lines
2 x 10mm line c.10m as springs
1 x 20m 14mm line as GP / emeregency towing warp
1x 3m 10mm line with carabiner as a single handed mooring line - console to pontoon to get initial line onto secure point.
8m of anchor chain and 60m of 12mm line.

Stern lines are about 5 mtr. That's generally long enough for most occasions and, if a line goes over the stern quarter when you're underway, the drag on it will hold it well away from the prop and it'll trail along harmlessly behind you.
Not ideal, but not catastrophic

Irrelevant-it's off and stowed every time.

I never run with my bailers down, I think I've only ever used them a couple of times over 4 boats in 26 years.

Me neither, but I suspect we both have fairly beefy pumps. Seen a lot of 4-5m boats with small or no bilge pump where the bailers are actually used.

My 7.4m delta has no deck drains except the trunks so it's not just smaller boats need to use trunks I'm careful about ropes lying in the stern as I've had one out the trunk before but fortunately didn't reach the prop

Likewise, never needed it. The pumps easily deal with the rain & very occasional bit of spray that blows in.

My bilge pump works less well, still being in a box in the garage, but I don't even have mine down a lot of the time........
