Interestingly, the article suggests the 2 casualties went overboard first, before the RIB hit the yacht.

Hmmm, even more possibilities for speculation.

Thank goodness there were no serious injuries

Nope.

My Oppo, with whom I work, is with the CG Cliff Rescue. He was called out on this one. This guys were allegedly under the influence at 1o'clock in the morning. The helm tried to say that his speed had been within the 8 knt limit, The throttle on the rib was found to be in the WOT position. He could have hit it on impact, but to sink a moored yacht there had to some speed involved.
