Where to get quotes for insurance on small rib

I have just purchased a new rib, a SR4 Thanks to the ribnet members (whisper peterm and timm) that gave me lots of helpful advice.

I now need to arrange boat insurance before i collect it. Who are the best insurance companies or brokers for insurance on a small rib, and what ballpark figure should I be expecting?

Chris

Nice one

PeterM is the man when it comes to insurance, however I've always used craft insure.

Ive used craftinsure for 10 years & unfortunately had to make a claim a couple of years ago & although I expected them to say "sorry your not covered for that sir" they paid up a substantial amount without question

I was very pleased with the outcome & found them excellent to deal with throughout

I wouldn't go anywhere else

& there cheaper than anywhere else too

Hi. I recommend Mercia Marine. Premium will depend on value, power, experience and NCB, but my research found them very competitive. As with others, you can get an instant online quote without obligation. Always remember to read the small print about storage and security as rules vary between insurers.

Craftinsure are certainly nice and easy to deal with; everything done on-line instantly and you can go with a monthly policy if you only plan to have the boat for a short time which is handy. I've spoken to them in the past about adding cover for RYA training and cover for non-commercial safety boat work and that hasn't been a problem.

I now have a Denovo commercial policy which covers any boats and trailers in my possession along with a few other bits like public liability. They are generally quick to come back to me with any changes to the policy, and I think it (the policy) represents good value. The only slight downside was recently when I wanted a quote for cover for a boat I'm currently doing up for charter work but they wouldn't even quote or give me a rough idea what this would be without a survey which I found a bit irritating!!

Finally, steer clear of Towergate Mardon. Over six months to settle a claim, and the case was handled very, very poorly (Oh I seem to have lost all of the paperwork, would you mind sending me over everything again). I know I'm not alone!

Yes .I do recall...Its not my speciality at all, yes I can arrange it, but folks have good and bad experiances from all companies & brokers..

As has been said - check what you need by way of locks/ clamps etc and make it as hard as possible to steal.

However its not only being stolen you're paying for - own damage and third party liability are in there too ! cheapest isn't always best and most expensive isn't always good quality ( much like the boats themselves)

I am just about to switch from Noble Marine to craft insure - but actually when I had a smaller boat, Noble marine were the best priced - and they are very responsive to changes, questions, etc. so worth doing a quick online quote with them and craft insure.

Agree, no others come close.

I use Insure My Boat and they've pointed me to a Navigators and General policy that seems to tick the right boxes
