What's this hole?

Not sure if photo is attached but anyway I was wondering what the hole was at the base of my hull. It looks like some sort of drain plug hole minusthe plug.....however what I don't understand is how water would get in the hull in the first place. It's not a bilge hole as I have an elephant's trunk. I know some ribs have a ballast tank (some old avons) but my Rib is a 5m Tornado and I can't find any info about it.
Anyone know what it's for please!

Looks like a bog standard drain to me. What’s going on with the metal plate screwed to the bottom of the transom?

You'll possibly find that if it is ex RNLI, they have fitted a drain plug as a belt and braces approach.

The RNLI boats did / do have ballast systems but they tend to be operable at sea whereas this looks to just be a plug. It doesn't look big enough to be part of a flooding hull system similar to a Searider.

I'd say it needs a plug.

The link doesn't work for me.

You said it was ex RNLI in post #7 which is why I was talking about RNLI boats.
