What's the new 6 metre rule ?

While reading the Chasecraft thread, then visiting their website I read the line "it may be moored under the new 6 metre rule..."

I have never had the experience of mooring anything less than 10 metres in a marina, could anyone enlighten me please, is there a benefit to having a small boat ?

I tried a search but nothing shows up to explain.

never heard of it either, but the nice owners of the marina i use have a 8 metre rule all small boats below 8 metres are charged for 8 metres and then during Cowes week we get shoved all over the place and rafted up so they can squeeze in a few more punters.

But you're not bitter! Ever thought of a transom extension or a long nose cone to use up your allocation?
