What is a RIB exactly.....?

I have bought what was described as a RIB. It is a Intex Seahawk 400. The spec read: 'Rigid inflatable hull of 3-ply laminate construction..."

The floor of the boat is an air chamber. There is no wood in it and the whole thing folds into a bag.

Can or can not...this be described as a RIB?

thank you.

Moodi.

PS I have found that a 'Motor Mount' is available for it and it is rated for upto 2 hp so has anyone got a 2hp cheap?

Hello Moodi
Welcome to the forum. A RIB is a Rigid Inflatable Boat, I do not think you have bought what can be considered a RIB.

thanks Charles

Well for the price of a genuine RIB and the difference between this one I would have thought bunging a bit of wood on the floor wouldn't be too much problem if thats all it takes..?

2HP

Moodi

Honda 2hp - £349 (or less) new.

5 year guarantee.

Go for ever - runs on unleaded fumes!

Don't bother with s/h at this end of the market.

That's an inflatable. It's not a RIB.

RIB's have hulls made of GRP (most commonly), other rigid plastic, aluminium or occasionally wood. Inflatables may have inflatable or wooden keels, inflatable or wooden or aluminium floors, but they are still not RIBs!

You're still welcome here though

Rib or Rhib

Hi all

Shouldn't we really be calling a RIB a RHIB as RIB is a contradiction of terms, surely a rib should be a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat not a Rigid Inflatable Boat....!

Sorry just being pertantic.

Richard

I hope I am not the only one who appreciates the irony of a typo on the word pedantic.

If we do start calling them Rhibs at least being Welsh then I can pronounce it.

Thanks
Stuart
