What do i need to race in U.K?

I have plans to buy a racerib, and would like to take the rib to uk from sweden once a year for a race. What kind of licence do i need to drive in uk?

Which race is interesting, i would like to be on the soutcoast.

Is lymington race the best??

If you want to race in the UK you will need a licence - a Swedish one will be fine for International events, but for something like the Lymington race which isn't an International one I guess you will need a British licence - contact the RYA and they will tell you what you will need.

Next year there are Cowes in August and Round Britain races - both International - what boat are you going to race?

My advice is to do a level 1 powerboat course. You can then move on to level 2. To be honest the level one is really very basic and often the training companies just combine the 2.

I understand this year's Lymington race could be entered by non licence holders on an 'event licence' and this entailed a 1/2 day of powerboat race instruction the day before the race. Seemed like a good introduction/taster to RIB racing.

Don´t need to be a only rib race, for 2011 the biggest experience will be to drive the rib back to sweden

Then 2012 go back by car, trailer and rib in the summer for some fun waterevent.... Hmmm olympics 2012, if it place for one more boat in solent then

Each to their own - with your "home" waters, and the Baltic and Norwegian Fjords only a day or so away the appeal of the solent with half of England fiting for who gets the best view of the Fawley refinery would be a bit further down my list!

As others have said the RYA powerboat level 1 and 2 or even advanced courses have nothing to do with racing.

As Dirk says there isn't a lot of racing for RIBs in the UK, although the Superstock series have introduced a RIB class now and that may turn out to be worth entering, but it would be a lot of trouble if you weren't going to carry on with it.
