Just think if you had called the CG - they may have asked for any boat in the area to assist - then you would have had us lot arrive . Can you have too much 'help' I wonder ?

Thanks Garf - we did wonder if our little battery was struggling but even with all electrics other than the radio off it said the same thing - will see if I can find some more sparks

A group tow - lol that would have been an experience

As can be seen from the other messages from obviously very experienced ribbers, don't beat yourself up. We all learn by experience! It is virtually the only way, and as many say, any other boater will help you given half a chance, it is a close community due to the dangers involved. No one hurt, except "his" pride of being sick!

Keep going, if you never try you will never know. Live fast die young. You only live once. Many phrases are cheesy but they all stem from the truth.

You will look back with strong memories of the day and that is all part of boating. The most uncomfortable experiences and worrying times not only teach you the most, but provide the best stories to recount in the pub!!

Good luck going forward and don't worry, you are fairly prepared as far as i can see from your posts. It is the idiots who go out with no lifejackets and no fuel that get given grief!

Neil - please don't even think about maybe feeling bad - the Searider was amazing - totally cracking in all the various sea states we experienced and at no point did we feel unsafe in the RIB - only in my own ability - if we had managed to make the meet all would have been fine - what we should have done was turn back at the first sign of iffy trouble - the Searider really is an amazing boat and I'm glad (on reflection ) that we went

Top Banana - ya bugger

Have a few bits of video I will try and do something with - sadly none of the rescue !!

Thanks Paul - it was good to write up the experience here and the words of encouragement/advice very much appreciated - I almost feel like I've been to confession

It was a very good lesson in how little things can add up to something far more interesting

Darren will be fuming when he finds out the whole of RIBnet knows he was seasick!!

Do you think it was all related to leaving the trunks down? e.g. water in fuel and electrics? or just a combination of unconnected events?

Glad to hear you made it back safely in the end so you can share the experience with the rest of us.

I don't think I have a channel 32 on my radio either. I'm surprised he would suggest just call them direct on a "working channel" rather than contact via the CG. But i've not actually found myself in that situation (so far!).

I think you probably have anyway. You'll be dining out on this one for years!

Lots of people here will understand exactly how you got into this mess - most of us have suffered this sort of day to one degree of another. Until you get into a routine things always take far longer to get ready than you could possibly imagine. Then determination to get somewhere at a certain time can turn into a fixation which doesn't help sensible decision making. Throw in a dodgy motor, a bit of weather and a lack of local knowledge and you have the perfect recipe for a slightly too exciting day.

I'm very pleased to read about it here though, not in a MAIB report! . . .

Thanks All - John I think you summed up the events very well and it's great reading all the comments here - makes you feel less of a fool

Cookee - yep have done radio course - we just didn't feel we should "bother" them - lesson learnt me thinks

As for Channel 32 - I watched him radio through - he used channel 32 and said they were on M band - does that mean anything??

I know we have Low and High but hadn't appreciated they were separate wave bands as in different channels - maybe I missed that bit at the training - off to check my instruction manual now

Ah got it now - M1 and M2 although they are different numbers on different radios - P4?
