SpearRib - I notice that you're in Australia. I'm not sure that some of the responses take that into account. What sort of water and air temperatures are you likely to be experiencing?

depends, water temp varies from 15 degrees in winter upward. the wind is cold in vic and it can go from being really hot to freezing the next day (depending on time of year). im usually in relatively calm areas that may get up to 1m swell and or chop (1m total is usually the dead set highest).

OK - your original choice is good then - wetsuit and waterproof coat + hat/gloves. I lived in Carlton (Melbourne) for a year and I don't recall any freezing temperatures but I do remember it hitting 43C a few times

Our water makes 15C in the summer

I have exactly the same sized boat as you, BTW, so I understand the issues...

anything below 30 is freezing isnt it? ;-p

actually i was in the uk in july, cornwall and it was flappn gorgeous. we had a brilliant time even though the surf was flat. wish i had a sib, but had fun none the less.

my mate spearfishes in southern NZ, in the fiords, 7mm minimum stuff, not my cup of tea.

i like the 2.85 but we looking to go to an air floor and 3.2-3.4m now. just a bit more room and we have to dismantle every use and the zodiacs hard floor is already getting a chore. we did consider an avon 2.8, but only takes a 6hp, where as the 3.2 will take up to 15hp should we ever feel the need, but personally like a motor around 26kg as its easier to get out of the boot :-)
