Any views on the Overboard Ipad waterproof case? Just bought one to try out as a chartplotter. Hopefully wont drop it in the water but would like it to be shower proof!

Only £25 as well so a lot cheaper but obviously more of a bag design and affords less protection to the device than the above products.

There is no waterproof case out at the moment for the new iPad, there is one available in Chandleries but it has had its waterproof certification removed for new iPad, it was originally sold as waterproof for both.

With regards to the life proof one, their iPhone cases are well proven although there will be the odd one badly fitted that may leak but better than nothing. I would be interested to know where the RRP came from for the life proof iPad case although it does seem about right.

I use the Otter Defender on both iPhone and iPad for protection, I also have an 'Overboard' soft waterproof case for both I use at sea, although not waterproof it does it's job, I have never been careless enough to ever drop any of my phones in the water, that said I will probably be jinxed now :-).

Totally different product, don't be confused, that is the one that had its new iPad waterproof status removed due to the new iPad being 1mm thicker and not sealing properly.

As for the overbiard, I paid £30 in Lymington for it so you have a decent price there. It looks a bit of a dodgy locking mechanism but does seem to work, These were the best I could find at the time, not tested either totally submerged, more of hope it works if required.

I hope to get a couple of the life proof ones in the US for my iPads if launched when there next month.

The Life Edge product is Scanstruts and their mount is a Ram Mount product, as well a Rok-Lok mount with iPad fittings.

While everyone is waiting for the £200 covers - a ZipLock Slider bag works well too, pretty much waterproof and you can use the touchscreen through the plastic. Costs pennies.
