URGENT help needed for round the island

We were due to escort the TOE IN THE WATER (TITW) open 60 yatch around the isle of wight for the RTI race tomorrow - unfortunately we have had a major engine problem and cannot now help them

is there anyone out there with a solid relaible RIB who would be willing to escort this yatch around???

you would need to:
  • be at gosport @ 5am
  • have space to accomadate a doctor, Marine and one other around the island
  • have a RIB/fuel/relevant safety gear/experience suitable for going round the island what ever the weather!
If you available to help please do not post a reply (am posting on behalf of lurcher) but ring John on

07836 596619

many thanks

Is this cause something that RIBNET as a group could support in some way - or would we all needed to be coded if we took guys out ( even for an hour or two in the solent ) ?

I dont feel there is a much better cause to be able to give some time & effort to. especially compared to what these guys have given.

I believe this will go back to coding and whether needed, it is not for reward so should remain outside but need for safety gear, competence etc.
I was in town as the latest funeral for a young soldier killed in action today so agree a very good cause.

It is great however that Tim has stepped in to help

Have a great day

Hi Ian

As it is a voluntary thing use of rib free of charge and my time free of charge no need for a coded rib , however the one that I am using is a 8 metre ocean with twin diesels and 8 man liferaft and more safety kit than most coded boats have so not a problem .

I happy to help out and its a small thing to give when you compare what these brave people have given already.

Cheers Tim

Huge thanks

I am back on dry land and able to respond myself now .The first post was done by my son .
A huge thanks to Tim for stepping in to the breach and to Simon aka Nasher who sorted out the calls from his car .
With regard to Toe in the Water this is a superb outfit and we had the privelege of working with them today on their training session , the injured guys perfomed without any concession to their injuries some of which are just unbelivedable . They are so positive in their approach to life it was trully humbling .
I am so pissed off that we have a breakdown and can't go around with them .
We will be supporting them in spirit and if any one is out there tomorrow give them a wave and cheer them on .
Two of the more insane ones are swimming from Southsea to the Forts in the evening too !This is after a 0500 start and sailing around the Island !Good luck to Anna and Matt on that one.
There are 3 boats out a Farr 65 called Juno with branding on the side an open 60 Toe in the Water and Artemis 1 which will also have branding on her hull.
Again thanks to all who responded to the initial cry for help ,as James said the POWER of RIBNET saved the day .

Looooooong Day to be on the helm 14 hours so abit knackered .

Lots of running around taking people here there and everywhere managed to get the guy who swam to the forts back to gunwharfe in time for his swim.

Think there was a party going on that we had to get the others back for not sure .

got home around 10.00
