unreasonable boat yard

thanks for the input guys.
yes i am pissed off with having my boat stolen. i work hard etc etc. how dare someone just take my property.
even more annoying is if they where caught what would they get ?
community service order........................please..
i had discussed with the yard and im not putting anything other than the truth on here
their "discussion" with me was to inform me i have a contract with them.
really helpful. they will sell on the mooring if they can but realistically at this time of the season we should all be settled on our moorings etc.
so if and when i can get another boat i will be launching. no moorings again.
even if i am paying for one.

Probably not, but if they are a small firm an danumber of people decide to give up their moorings, partway through the season it might.

In my experince there i soften a thriving "blck market for moorings where people currently without a boat wish to retain "their" mooring as waiting lists are often many years, and effectively sub-let it.

If in a popular raea I'm sure you'd find a taker to cover your mooring costs.

I agree, must feel that the boatyard's twisting the knifeafter the theft... but they need their income too. I bet the margins are low and not guaranteed.

Completely understand how you are feeling. Robbery can shake your soul especially if you are law abiding. In your position, I would expect empathy and consideration; and will hate anyone who flags rules to me.

I have been in a situation worse than yours and Police, instead of sympathizing with us, claimed we should have been careful. I fumed for months and complained about them to everyone I came across but months later I realized they made sense and prepared myself for the future.

So calm down and look forward. Think about your boat yard when you are in a calmer demeanor and may be you will understand their perspective. Maybe this is an opportunity for you to start saving for your dream boat?? We all have one, don't we? Wish you the best!!

It's reasonable that if you enter a fixed term lease mooring agreement for a set period then that's the deal the fact you don't currently have a boat to put at your mooring is neither hear nor there, why is your recovered boat not there?
you've rented the mooring for your use, if you chose to leave your mooring empty that's your choice if the mariner told you to to move your boat because they have let the mooring out to someone else would that be reasonable? YES!
Why has your insurance not paid you out, the boat has been recovered so it's right they now pay your claim is it not, does your insurance provide a hire boat option like care insurance if not, why not? Boating is a seasonal activity it's reasonable your insurance settle your claim within 14 days of recovering the loss as any longer will reduce your use of the replacement bits this season. I feel your taking your beef to the wrong people i.e. The marina, you need to get on to the insurance company, this claim is due be paid, the boat has been recovered I suggest you request a full and final written offer within 14 days from the insurance company, you may end up taking this to the insurance ombudsman and possibly to county court. The boat has been recovered so no ongoing investigation to find the boat!

Lee - I take it you've never made a claim on insurance in your life? I've never seen a marine policy that provided "hire boat" in the interim, even if it did there are very few bareboat charters available so it would likely be moot, especially at this time of year in this weather. If you demand a "full and final written offer" the insurer may well offer you less than you want or even "not covered for theft from a swing mooring". Don't expect the "county court" to be too excitable if you've made unreasonable demands of the insurer (its not ridiculous that they are waiting for a formal survey or multiple quotes before declaring the repair uneconomical).

Lee- what planet you on ?
the boat was slashed, engine stolen, huill breached, and lots of other damage.so its beyond its sea worthy capacity. the insurance co are wiating for a repair estimate which the rerpairers are in the process of doing.
14 days...dont be silly.
btw. i have no argument with the contract. my gripe was with the boat yards attitude towards me.
ie. they come across as just wanting their money
