What "thin" trailing arm? The rear radius arms as they should be called are still the same part number as they have always been - never managed to bend one on some serious rocks never mind curbs!!!

Whoops another mate of my at a different supplier has told me that yes they are now different - see I ALWAYS admit when I am wrong!!!

However he said that they have never had to replace one and they are just as strong as the old ones. It is not the sort of part that gets replaced very often - and they are a huge parts supplier!

This is not the first LR the coastguard has destroyed. They reversed one off an 80 foot cliff some years ago, in the dark. For the non believers, the 2 occupants survived and the vehicle was susequently rebuilt and drives today (not by HMCG I may add!)

not only did they survive they walked out of it.

This particular package (Halmatic 22 & 110 Special Vehcle) was £125'000 - an ambulance was actually following them.

Tell your mate from Bearmarch that most people replace them from the scrap yard with old style ones.
A mate of mine has bent one almost through 108 degrees. It actually wraped round the axel. To be fair it was fitted to a 90 with a chipped 4.8 in it, and he was on an imposible trial section. The competitive guys are now fitting front radius arms (hockey sticks) to the rear.

The trailing arms (point backwards) are the bars which attach the bottom of the rear axel to the chassis. They used to be 28mm tube and are now 15mm bar.

If you look at the spray rails and the transom it looks like an arctic.
So Jono whats the full story?

The Coasties also lost one a few years ago can't remember where, but the base was asking the the Guy on the cliff what the wind speed was and he said don't know exactly but its just blown my landie off the cliff!!

Actually, and I hate to be "picky" here, but they shouldn't be called rear radius arms either. This is a common misnomer. They should be called "Link assembly lower- rear suspension" part number NTC8328 if my memory serves me well.....

Mmm.. not quite true. LR switched, in their infinite wisdom (Cost cutting ) from tubular to solid.. and they were pants! You could bend 'em in yer hand! So, as you no doubt will know, they switched back to tubular, although these are NOT identical to the earlier tubular ones.

And the winning modification here is? And I'm talking about my boys who won the Bulldog trophy this weekend! Specials class in an Ibex and this rather tasty special here. Remove top link, fit Panhard Rod and use Series two Disco FRONT radius arms...
