tohatsu one design

does any one know much about these boats? I have read one pretty favourable review. Am interested in a rib around this size for general cruising and family use.

I test drove one when they first came out back in errm probably 98ish. Thought it was Ok (not that much ribbing experience at that stage to compare too!). Performance 3 up was good although with 4-6 up with only 90hp not sure how good it would be - especially with full cruising kit onboard. Build quality seemed ok but it all seemed a bit lightweight compare to other RIBS. 90hp Tohatsu is a good old tech 2 stroke which means its pretty thirsty. I would have been tempted to put a 90hp ficht on it had I gone ahead. (& these days a 90hp 4 stroke I guess.) I have a mate with a Tohatsu 7.1m which he has cruised extensively around the East Coast and across the channel a couple of times & he's been pretty pleased with it. (Again not powered by a Tohatsu but a 150 Ficht.)

HTH,
Alan

There's a guy who lives on Alderney called Rowland Neal who is a very keen, and extremely experienced RIBster - he has a Tohatsu RIB (6.6 or 7.1 ish) with a Tohatsu 90tldi and he thinks it's great. There's probably a piccie in the gallery somewhere if that helps.

I've seen a Solent 7.5 which (I believe is a similar, if not identical, hull) performing very well in a sharp chop.

HTH!

Well I had one, well sort of, then I didn't have it, well sort of, then I definately didn't have one.

Anyway I have had a superb summer in a different boat, but going back to the onedesign, I would ensure that you had a test drive in it, and was happy with the size of engine offered with it. Try to have it loaded with the people or kit that you would normally have or use on it, to get a realistic idea of how it handles and performs.

Daniel where have you been?

Hi Daniel, Yes I have had a very busy summer, done the river Avon, the Thames (windsor area), Poole, Medway and coast, Southampton / Hamble, IOW and generaly got out and about. I was out on the boat today, very still and cold, but still nice to be on the water.

If you fancy a trip out let me know, the boat will be on standby in the marina throughout the winter

Cheers,
