Three injured as boat flips

Found this on BBC Norfolk

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7590634.stm

Apparently the inflatable dive boat flipped over as it was being turned to enter the water causing injuries to the three passengers on board at the time.

How weird. I know that spot; was my local launching spot when I lived in Norfolk. As the article says the sand there can be very soft, but surly it wouldn't be soft enough to turn a trailer with a RIB over? You don't generally get much in the way of waves theres either as theres a huge great man made reef about half a mile off the beach to slow down erosion.

Not supposed to launch with a full load of people onboard.

I've heard that a young idiot from our village flipped his 12ft speedboat this afternoon in rough water. 4 POB all in hospital with only shock hopefully.

I would think you could roll a rib&trailer on soft ground quite easily if you were being a bit silly. Going too fast... sharp turn in reverse...wheel digs in...jacknifes... etc. Even more likely with people on board raising the C.O.G.

Did the boat turn over whilst coming off the trailer i.e. stern toward the sea, so could broach side on and roll or, did it turn over no where near the sea whilst still on the sand?

You do see some daft goings on slips and beach launches involving a degree of showing off. I have had requests from people to launch by freeing all attachments then reversing at moderate speed and hitting the brakes. Trouble is you dont know if it's going to break loose before the intended launch point.

The requests are always politely declined.
