Thoughts on Osprey 5.7 please

A forum member has kindly replied to one of my queries and it has led to me look g at an an for an Osprey Viper 5.7.
In my price range of 5.5k I have found a nice Avon SR 5.5, however this Osprey is within budget but I know nothing about them.
Can any owners please tell me what their experience is of these ribs. It's fitted with a 100 HP 4 stroke Suzuki.
Many thanks
Steve

Depends who's measured it as to what it actually is. Is it a hard nose?

You'd be better off finding the model name for it-ie, viper/eagle/sparrowhawk etc.

Apologies it is a viper, I've updated my thread with this and links.

Difficult one.
I think the Viper is a scam though. It's got 'find a fishing boat' watermarks in all the pics and it's a bit cheap.

Wouldn't bother with the Ribtec though , unless you want a safety boat. Twins are expensive to run and maintain. The seller doesn't have a clue about the boat either if he thinks those outboards are 2012. 2002 maybe.

It's on find a fishing boat, facebook and gumtree. I think it's genuine but it does look cheap for what it is. That's what's got me wondering what's up with it.
Interesting thoughts on RIBTEC as it was my preferred RIB.

Thoughts on Osprey 5.7 please

Was looking again for the Osprey FAFB ad, and it's gone ??? Strange that when we start chatting about it it goes. So Nos4r2 probably right about being a scam. Sorry if it was (and nothing to do with me btw !). Could be good if genuine so don't give up, until you ask ........ As with anything secondhand, until you see it, touch it, hear it, then you don't know if good or not. Unfortunately, it's just the time it takes to do all this, especially when having to travel. Osprey Viper still an excellent RIB, if you can find one !!! I guess I'd just got lucky on Gumtree.

Ps. the main outboard was only a 2 stroke, not 4, which makes price a bit more realistic. If genuine ad.

I've had a reply from the owner on facebook. Its for sale on a cornish for sale site. He appears to have connection with the marine industry so it appears genuine.
Overall I'm not sure it's as good a package as the Avon SR I'm looking at. I'll view the SR first and take things from there.

Had an Viper 5.75 as my first rib great boats so much more room in them than a SR wide deck, great sea boat very forgiving with some TLC that would be a very nice Rib

That Ribtec looks tidy. Twin engines offer you much more reassurance in the event of a breakdown. The 585 is a great hull. Only downside is the trailer isn't included.

Thanks Nick. It does seem to have a very wide deck. Lots of options.

The ribcraft is £6k with trailer. They are all nice boats, too much choice !

Buy your own trailer, and go for the Ribtec? However the Humber seems to be the best kitted out. Probably get more for your money from the Humber.
From reading around all are good boats seems it would just be personal preference? The viper does not look like it had the most loving owner. The Avon looks nice but it's probably had the most use then again Avons can usually take the most abuse.

Make your decision based on condition of the engines year/hours?

If you are happy running twins with the added cost of maintenance + happy with rather under powered performance to my mind the the Ribtec
I would try and do a deal on the Viper have fun with it and maybe look to getting a newer engine as and when funds are available
This is what I did with mine the photos with the old Jonson where when I bought it looking very sad for her self Lots of TLC and a 150 hp Opti and she was so much fun

My Viper 5.25 went from ugly duckling (in my eyes) to this, and still not finished, but probably way too much money thrown at her tbh, but hey ho, I don't plan on selling her. Yet ! (Still running with the original 100hp 2 stroke.) Pic from today. They're solid hulls built by a fiberglass magician so can always be brought back to life ! As long as tubes are sound, then everything else not as expensive to renew / replace as and when.

Wow, 150 on a 5.75, bet that shot out of the water!

Was that within the max allowed?

So the Avon seems to be a good winner with a good price tag. That engine looks to be a 2010 70hp.

The Ribtec engines are supposed 2012?? If they are 2012s then it's a good deal I think.

The osprey engine could be as old as the early 90s but suzuki kept their color scheme around a long time could be a 2000 as well.

The Humber I have no idea. But it's expensive right.

So between all these boats I think the Avon is the best bang for ya buck.
Again what do I know...

Unless they were bought for a safety boat or racing, they can't be 2012 as 2 strokes haven't been sold to the public since 2006/2007ish.

Realistically, twins=twice the servicing costs, twice as much to go wrong and I'd expect the boat to be no faster with 2x40hp than if it had a single 60hp on, but with the fuel consumption of an 80hp.
