Thinking of buying this RIB

Hi,
I'm looking for my first RIB and an acquaintence who runs a brokerage has offered this RIB to me. I believe it's a Ribcraft 5.85. No age details but has been reasonably well maintained. The Honda 90 has recently been rebuilt and serviced and he's offering a 2 year guarantee on the engine.
All in he's looking for around £7000 inc the trailer. I'm going to have another look tomorrow.
On the face of it is this a good deal? Be interested in your comments

Cheers

Andy

If it's a 5.85 Ribcraft they are highly regarded. Looking at those pic's though that's probably all of it's money, won't be particularly quick with that heavy 90 on but a 2yr ( he didn't say months did he?) guarantee on the engine is worth having. I did buy a not dissimilar rib for a hell of a lot less but very much 'sold as seen'.

Hi I have as you can see the same rib and cannot praise Ribcraft high enough!! I boat in the west mainly sound of jura and my rib handles everything that that area throws at it. As a maker they are really good to deal with for advice and parts. If anything the Honda maybe a little slow but it depends what you want it for. I have a 150 Mariner 2 stroke and with everything thing in my favour I will get 45knots easy.
The 2 year warranty is a good point.
What ever you decide I wish you well and let us know.

Ive seen the boat and know the dealer pretty well, I'm sure you'll be able to get a good few quid knocked off the price, he will also be able to stick a bigger engine on if you want.

I thought it looked shallow for an RC. But then, it looks narrow for a Northsub.

Never looked at the pics but now that I have, I also think it is a Northcraft as it is a dead ringer for my brother in laws especially the depth as Mollers says but also the transom setup and the fitting out. I might also hazzard a guess that it is 5.5 not 5.85

Correct 1998 vintage, / poss 99 and will flood like buggery over that transom witheven a 2 stroke and not enough weight up front

it will run fine with the 90 if as mollers said a little slow .. but dont repower it with too much, you will regret that and dont ask me how I know

Also .. for your peace of mind ask how long the tubes stay up .. mine were shite and went down after a couple of days .. fookin useless if you want to moor it at sea and leave it a couple of days without checking it

Thanks for the replies. The "aft" of the "Northcraft" lettering was all that I was left on the tubes so I put 2 + 2 together and came up with Ribcraft.

Welcome to ribnet!

...... "underpowered", is all relative.

My old SR4 had a 25 on the back. I bet there's nobody here would say it was big enough, but it could hold a steady 21 knots, the speed that anyone I cruised with would normally cruise at. Yeah, 'twas a tad lethargic out the hole, but once on the plane was fine 2 up.

If you want eye watering speed & "crew over the transom" acceleration, you'll want more horses, but for cruising / general use a 90 on a 5.5 should be fine.

Northcraft 5.5 will be ok with a 90, but £7k is too much for that boat. I sold a nicer one last year for a lot less.
