The Needles Lighthouse

I really would like to land at the The Needles lighthouse, by RIB.

Anyone know if this can be arranged?

Andy,

Two questions spring to mind:

(1) Why? - there isn't much space around the lighthouse.
(2) Who is going to stop you? Assuming there is no maintenance going on at the time.

Although obviously if you got into difficulty whilst doing it it could be particularly embarrassing.

I have seen maitenance craft arrive at The Needles but again would ask why as the swells are likely to wreck your RIB on the rocks even on a lot of calm days

The swells and tides round there are mad. Sounds like a bad idea to me.

I've always fancied trying to get ashore at Bishop Rock if I ever got down that way. There would be even trickier given the constant swell that's big even on a good day.

I envisaged jumping in with a drysuit, impact vest, climbing helmet etc to take a line across or even floating a small dinghy down from a line off the boat.

You could get in trouble though without permission. Does Trinity House own it? They get a bit possessive about their ltho's.

There was an episode of Coast where they went ashore at the Needles in a boat, worth watching just for reference.

I have been out on the boats when they delivered the mail to Bishops Rock, exciting would be one word for it.
