The Great River Race on the Thames 16th Sept

Hi All
Anybody planning on tagging along the Great River Race on the Thames this Saturaday. Leaving Richmond-Ham at aboat 9.45 with staggered starts, running for 22 miles down the Thames. 200 to 300 entries (Rowing boats, dragon boats, etc.)

I'm going to try to launch at Putney, and run with the boats for a while, and let the day pan out.

Any one else looking at doing something like this.
Regards
David

the GRR

David,

have a look at the Port of London website, i think the river will be closed for a few hours while the GRR takes place!

I rang the organisers of the Great River Race and asked that question, and the closer of the River is planned but only at the start of the race upstream of Richmond for about a mile. 22 miles of river up to Island Gardens is a large area to police so 21 miles of the course is open.

After speaking to the organisers, it sounds like a great day on the Thames with tides being good for 9.00am launch, looking like good weather(dam I said it). A bit fun and seeing some of the fast boats, as well as some daft nutters doing daft things.

Regards
David

Only the start is subject to the river closures.

It will also affect all boats using pontoons on the Surrey bank as they are all closed. The PLA will have a cross over point so the boats can change over to the Middlesex bank down near Canary Wharf. I think the general notice is stay close to the Middlesex bank anyway. I dread to imagine what will happen if you head towards the south bank, some of those marshall boats are driven by nutters!

Speaking of which, say hello to us at Westminster Bridge, Blackfriars and HMS Belfast!!!!

Chris

PS keep your eyes open for the beer barrel which races every year!
