Safety boats required

Can you help on Sunday 27th May ??

As with all big powerboat race events, we rely on the help of the volunteer patrol and rescue boats, if you not done this before all will be explained at the Sunday morning safety briefing, or can be done by email or phone if you can't make the briefing.
Why not make a weekend of it, we can provide berthing in Dolphin Haven on Poole Quay for the Saturday night, in return for you helping with the race from around 11.30 until 15.00 on the Sunday, book your Grandstand seat now !!!!

Firefox,

I'm based in Poole and may be able to lend a hand. Can you tell me what is involved, timings and what the equipment requirements are?

Simon

Simon, depending what you have already in your boat, no additional equipment should be required.
If you have a UK VHF that has channel M2 or it's called P4 on Icom's, this is the second marina channel, or 37A which is M1 then your set-up. All is explained at the Sunday morning safety briefing, you will be given a set of flags like motor racing and a position on the course to marshal, all this will be explained in detail, you are then the eye's and ear's of the safety officer, and you report what you are seeing or have done on the VHF back to safety control.
I'm New Milton / Poole so would be happy to meet up sometime to discuss, but would like to see if we get some more interested people, we could then arrange a social get together.
Regards
Bob Eddings

Whisper, thanks.
We do need a mix of boats, Simon's Cobra 8.6 would be suitable for one of the offshore outter legs, but your Avon 4.7 would be better near Bournemouth pier keeping the Lap line clear of spectator boats, because it's going to be flat sea, sunny and 30C !!!!
If your travelling down from Swindon (we moved south from Wantage last year) we can provide a slipway launch for you.

If its flat sunny and 30'c my little rib will be afloat in Poole, and tucked up in Poole quay boat haven. ( its not been called Dolphin Haven for a while - which could confuse visitors land side ?)

Or if Alex wanted company ?

Low Flyer, it would be great if you could help.
You could pop down to the end of the Solent to catch the Marathon boats at the Needles, plus they will be returning after about one hour to a buoy a little further west, or you could slip at the RMYC in Poole and help in the bay.

cgf10 - Chris, we are looking for people to help with the barriers on the Quay, the road will be closed on the East end of the Quay, so we are trying to get a rota of marshals to help control the traffic at thr barriers (if you can stand for an hour or so).
email in post above. Bob

We had a couple of race boats drop out yesterday, but still have 20+ entries.

First start at 12.00 on Sunday will send off the 8 marathon boats on a 85 mile lap (needles/portland), closely followed by the rest of the fleet who will be racing A & B Laps in the bay (65 miles), when these are finishing we should have the marathon boats returning to complete 2 A laps.
