Suzuki Df115Bg on a 5.5m Rib setup advice.

Afternoon all.

I have a gemini waverider 550.

Ive replaced my 2000 yamaha f115 that i was running a 19p propeller. It would get 39.9 knots and between 37 to 38.7 with 3 up.

Ive replaced with a new Suzuki and was expecting the same speeds. If not better. But with a 19p stainless I was hitting the rev limiter with 3 up at 35 knots. No trim adjustment.

Its been changed to a 21p stainless an only getting 37 knots one up. Still hitting the rev limiter if I trim out.

Engine is mounted 1 inch above the keel. I cant go higher as on the last bolt hole.

Anyone running the same engine on a Rib and whats your prop size and setup please.

The Suzuki DF115BG is geared to swing a bigger prop, then the Yamaha's ( or most other brands out there honestly ). I would think if your still hitting the REV limit on the OB, you still have room to increase pitch or diameter.

I will be taking possession of my new Highfield Sport 560 ( with the same engine in the water this spring ). The dealer is starting me out with the 19p. I will be following your thread to see how you make out ( and I will update all with my results when available ).

On a side note: How do you like the digital controls on the BG model?
Are you running it with the SMG4 gauge?

Evening. Apoligies in the time taken to reply.

Wnet out today for 6 hrs, was nice to get out.

37 knots 3 up today, still hit the rev limiter with 2 clicks.

Not sure how aggressive the suzzuki props are.

4500rpm 26 knots
5000 rpm 30 knots.

I would hope for you once its run in. Yourself will be quicker as its a new hull etc.

The fly by wire is great, very smooth. I didn't go for the the push button start, due to issues when the batteries go dead etc.

But as its part of the engine package, I took it away with me. Incase I ever decide to install it.

But I like a physical key.

Whne my throttle was set up, I was hapoy wirh rhe friction, but now its probably a bit to easy to move, an you cna be caught out with a slight movement. So may look at it being adjusted.

Smg4 gauge is top notch. Everything you need is on it.

I went for a needle fuel gauge to run independently. Again personal choice.

It doesn't have built in GPS an I didn't have a nmea 2000 device for it to connect to. So purchased a gos puck of ebay.

Im sure on a new vkat you'll have a decent screen which can be linked in for tbe speed part of the smg 4.

Personally I would regard the rev limiter as something nice to have but not activate, like airbags. IMO the OP should be aiming to hit the max recommended revs with a light load - one up with partial load would be my choice - balancing that against the occasional heavy load where the boat still has to perform reasonably without bogging down. My 'main' prop is a little underpitched for a light boat but I know to stay my hand.

Sounds like the OP's motor has a few more KPH left in it.

@ Kernow Explorer:

I have my SMG4 tied into N2K for both my Simrad chart plotter and Garmin AIS VHF ( both have GPS built in ). I had them install a dedicated fuel sender as well; and both the SMG4 and chart plotter can track usage. I wish they would incorporate the immobilizer feature, without the need to add the push to start. Like add in a 6 digit code to the SMG4 to lock out the engine.

As for props I will probably just use the 19p that came with the Suzuki as a spare and try to get a TBD 4 blade for grunt work like pulling people out back and a TBD 3 blade for better top end speed ( seems like this might be a SS 21p or similar based on your feedback ).

My understanding about adjusting the friction on the throttle, is that its just a set screw and very simple to adjust. I can't imagine ever going back to the tall sticky mechanical style throttle.
