stereo

Hi We have a small space on the new boats console and it seems to be begging for a stereo/cd(don't panic it is NOT WHITE).
Don't know anthig about them, are they reliable, do they need one of those boxes? Also do they work at speed and where do you put the speakers??
What about damped running at speed?

all feedback will be appreciated!

thanks
Mike

Hi

I am just about to fit a stereo to my new Rib, I am going with Aquatic Head Unit, 2 Chrome Speakers on the A-Frame, Sony 6.5" Speakers on the Consul, with 2 Tweeter Speakers to go in the corner of the consul behind the glass. 400w Sub Woofer inside the Consul, 280 Watt Amp to drive the A-Frame Speakers.

The ICOM VHF will also be wired into the UNIT so it will mute the stereo, so I don't miss any radio traffic I may need to hear, plus I can use the VHF through the Stereo as a tannoy.

Alternatively the same gear can be bought from a fellow trade RIBNET member at a good price:-

MikeCC http://www.allgadgets.co.uk/

Price up the stuff from marine AV and then tell Mike what you want for a price. I don't think his website reflects the sale of the Marine AV stuff yet.

By the way I am not related or have any financial dealings with Mike. He's just supplied me some of the above kit at a decent price.

http://www.rib.net/forum/showthread.php?t=16305&page=2

Like Nautibouy I shall be going for a sub woofer next and some Wakeboard speakers. I'm just concerned as to how 'nickable' the speakers will be.

Hi

Very interested in the bit of kit that mutes the radio do you have any more information?

Stereo

I like the looks of a sleek stereo in a console and all, but I found it more practical to mount an amplifier inside the cosole and run a headphone jack into my mp3 player which I put in a small dry case on the console. Not too many stations to listed to out in the ocean, and cd's are bulky and don't play for shit with salt spray on them..

I will try ask the question, just something they mentioned when going through the spec, I believe it works in the same principle as a Car Kit, so think it is in the actual in the Head Unit, will find out.

Jimmy, With the above system you can wire a MP3 player in to a dash mounted accessory socket.
As you say CDs jump, so I'm going to put my MP3 player in a plastic bag and put it on the consol so I can get at it and change tracks etc. I had an old MP3 player lying around so thats going to be my first test dummy.

I missed that bit when I wired mine up. Must go back and check the manual. The head unit has tons of wires for all sorts of possibilities so maybe its one of those.

I think that's pretty much what Nasher's done on his boat.

Yep

I have a cheap MP3 player in the glove compartment connected to a cheap car AMP in the console via its headphone socket.
Then a pair of proper marine speakers set in the console.
No moving parts to bounce around etc.

Nick, beware the ebay bathroom speakers as many are 8 ohm, not the 4 ohm ones you'll need with a car Amp based system.

All the better to hear Terry in the mornings.

Hope it will all be fitted by the Folly Cruise. If it's foggy you can double as a lighthouse

So I need to keep to the same ohm (what ever they are!) then?

Nick,

If you want cheapish the Marine AV own make speakers are about £45. They are pretty large, waterproof and actually don't sound too bad unless your WOT.

We've got the 4" version. They seem alright apart from one of the grills falling off from time-to-time.
