Stainless steel 304 grade laser cut to size

I'm sure you guys must have your contacts but if you go to Ebay (!) and visit the shop of Profileman you will see he cuts things from stainless marine grade and alluminium. I ordered a couple of large washers to fit my console where holes were bigger than the new gauges. He charged just £8 for the two cut and posted the same day and they arrived the next day I was very impressed. The main man was Craig and he was very helpful indeed. He tells me he will cut or make anything with water and laser cutters.

That sounds very good. I did an internet search for laser/water cutting a few weeks ago and got a very good service from the company I used, but it wasn't cheap. I needed a new dashboard panel for my parents motor boat which was about £160. About 12 holes and 40 odd characters engraved/etched.

I need some cutting too but needs to be 316, can supply the 316 though as it will be below the water line. I'm told 304 isn't good with salt water. Will look him up and contact him.

Just thinking about that one... if I had a new engine (megabucks), and I couldn't actually SEE it while cruising - £160 would seem like good value for the constant reminder. Not to mention clarity of available data

Thats the trouble with computers one wrong letter and the whole thingoes to rats! Yes it's Profilemen but if you put in laser and stainless steel he is usually selling useful offcuts.

If only I'd known how much work was involved. I may have thought twice about it! Not long now, just waiting for the prop.

Fully agree. What a real neat job! I like the idea of having the call sign etc engraved on the panel.
Mine has to be renewed every few months.

Fortunately I can do AutoCAD, which meant a quick email was all that was required to get the design over to the company (cut-tec.co.uk). Would have contacted a fellow ribnetter had I realised you had access to such a toy.

Must say I was a little suprised however, when I got the panel back, to find the fixing holes around the square opening were in the wrong place. After a bit if cursing I realised the dimensions in the VW Marine installation book were wrong by a couple of mm, and that the panel was exactly as I had specified. Took a while with the Dremel to ovalise the holes to get it to fit.
