SSR Numbers

Now then,

I received my SSR number this morning in readiness for our med trip in may. Now according to the paperwork the MCA have sent, they say the number has got to be painted on to a specific size ( which they have given me a sample ). So is there any 'leeway' with this i.e. vinyl graphics fitted to the consul/hull or am I going to have to make some form of stencil and get the dulux out

Your thoughts will be very much appreciated

Ta

Martin

I`m in the same boat as you. (pun intended!)

Several chandleries offer a white sticker, slightly smaller than what the MCA specify, which has SSR printed on the left then a gap on the right for the numbers which you buy seperately and attach.

Or just use a set of self adhesive decals. I`ve used both types over the years and IMHO the self adhesive single ones look better but you need time an patience to set them out then stick on etc etc.

How long did you wait for them to send the registration out?

Chris

My understanding is that you can use adhesive stickers as long as they are the size set out by the MCA.

Yeah you can.

The little instant sticker job with SSR printed on is just a bit smaller than the MCA example thats all.

I dont think your gonna get some sad offical with his tape measure impounding your boat though! That sad you never know!

What about going to your local sign shop? He will be able to computer cut the whole number in one - no setting out needed - just have to get it level!

Im going to get them made up in vinyl form the bloke that does all our trucks and trailers. He says he will scan the sample and make them in any colour accordingly, ie white on blue consul.

CJL,

I applied on line on monday and the number and reg certifcate came via post on wednesday. Damn good service

Cheers

I had mine made up by one of the many boat name making companies (can't remember which one) to the exact size needed for about £12 or so. Fits across the front of the console above the hatch no bother
Been on for 6 months now and looks as good as when new.

SSR Number ?

Excuse my ignorance, what does SSR stand for?

(sits back and waits for howls of derision)

Had mine done at the local sign writers showing both local registration and SSR underneath.

To be honest the only time I've get asked for my SSR and passport for that matter was once I'd reached the marina office. I've never been stopped whilst underway!?

Maybe I've just got one of those faces!!!

Having been stopped by customs in France ( Saint-Quay-Portrieux ) they were not interested in the fact I had the SSR number on the boat, rather did I have my SSR passport.

As it happended it was in the same bag as my passport; at home .

They weren't concerned about my passport but were happy to take £100 off me for not having the SSR passport .

So make sure you have the passport and your ICC with you

Regards

Mark

Where is the online SSR site?

Hello Martin (Osprey Viper)

Can you advise of the site location for the online SSR applications.

My position is that I have bought a boat secondhand which already has an SSR number (in the correct size letters!).

Can I simply pay a transfer charge and re-register the 'small ship' to me?

And I would assume that they would then send out a new SSR passport?

Any comments apreciated

Thanks Paul

Hi Paul. The online registration is here . They will then send you your registration certificate. We reregistered our boat which we bought second-hand. IIRC it costs £12. HTH.

Paul, unless I'm mistaken you've purchased gingercoastie's Humber... congratulations, a great RIB!

If it helps, we re-registered our RIB and retained the same SSR which saves sticking new stickers!

Have not done SSR cos I am tight! £12 for what? Please explain the advantages of the bureaucracy. Have CG66 which is free and I understand the benefit.

Bruce, have a look here. The main reason is probably that it is necessary if you intend to take Farfetched abroad. IIRC, Mark Wildey posted a while ago to say that it was only the SSR that the French authorities were interested in.

Looking forward to seeing you, Jo & Joshua again soon!
