SR4 flooding hull

Good evening all,
I have a question regarding the sr4 flooding hull.
Did they all start life with a flooding hull? I'm not sure of the exact age of mine but the plate on the rear says serial no 00050 and it has a yellow and red Avon badge.
The reason for my question is that it looked like the hull had been blocked up so I thought I would remove the piece of wood blanking it only to reveal quite a small hole and what looks like the wooden core of the transom. I have sealed it back up for now and sought the knowledge of the guys and gals on here to see if that is how it should be.
Many thanks
Neil
