Sorry another 5.4 wots it worth question

First of all sorry to bore you all but ive seen another 5.4, promise i will buy one soon.

I have posted pics of the usual rubbing strake issues, no electrics and a naff trailor, tubes look ok on patch badly done but no bleaching, transom has holes but they were i think form the "A" frame that has been removed to fit cover? gem of a yam though, so its over to you

Well, it's a 1987 boat What's the Yam?
What part of the tube is that pic of the glue coming undone? Is it the double cladding on the bow?

Are you sure? That clamp in the pic looks the wrong colour for an '01.

one day someones gonna say its a bargain buy it, or ive got one ill sell you??, its the one on flea bay for £4200

Nos how did you know the year? the guy says the motor is worth 3K that makes the hull £1.2 cos the trailor is scrap.

Is it really that difficult to find one?

Ahhhh...the clamp in the previous pic looked like it was an earlier bluey grey. It's obviously not from that pic.

Has that boat been in the water with those open holes in the transom?!

The military number-it's boat number 86 from 1987.

That motor isn't worth £3k, and if the hull is worth £1200 you'd have to verify that for yourself but it's not worth that if he's let the transom fill with water through those holes...

If i had the cash it would be ian mac's for me but you know how it is, 4K ok for this, surprised at the age of the hull?

The guy can't even be bothered to pump the tubes up to sell it.If he's that lazy,I'd expect similar levels of neglect throughout the boat.

It doesnt have to be a 5.4 just that from reading these forums the 5.4 is a very safe and seaworthy rib for the money, but am open to suggestions budget 4k

just had this responce from seller when pointing out faults:

there was a small patch on the rear which somebody had repaired poorly.I removed this patch as the leak was tiny and not worth worrying about. The trailer itself may be a little rusty in places but has had a new axle and bearings, even a brand new trailer after being in and out of the sea for a year looks scruffy, you also need to grease the bearings every 3rd trip in the water, dont be taken in by so called waterproof bearings, they dont exist and replacement is expensive compared to ordinary off the shelf bearings. Also dont run any engine less than a 90hp 2 stroke on one of these, that equates to a 60hp in four stroke world because of the weight ,but you would be severely dissapointed with a 60hp four stroke on the back.I did my home work the same as you for a year to put together a realy good set up, the engine makes up 99% of that.look on babcock disposals, they sell off the navy's seariders when they are available, normaly a tatty one is £1200 to £1900 plus vat.You may find an imaculate late searider if you are lucky but with a 2001 90hp Yamaha you would be looking at £8000
If you are interested then make me an offer, personally i wouldn't worry about the rubbing strake on the side it is only superficial, spend your money on having the engine properly serviced every year, and you will have years of enjoyment.

Send a message via Skype™ to TUFTY
Leave it

I have a trailer which i bought new in 2001 and does not look scruffy, why? because
I have cared for it.

This does not look like a well cared for outfit and there will be better ones out there.

Be patient and one will come up, Rush in and you will be dissapointed and out of pocket.

only MVHO but I expect others will agree?

Cheers,

Tufty

I'd be offering him a price with out the trailer if you like the boat and engine. I've learnt to never over look the trailer. Look around at what trailers are selling for and then go back to him with your price.

Anyone else noticed that any 5.4 seariders that go on ebay lately don't last till the end of the auction? Seems like they get snapped up very quickly!

I like the engine and thats it, the boat isn't that special, trouble is the guy values the motor at 3k, this ones been on the bay before and hasn't been snapped up and from what feedback i've had will be there for some time, so the search continues.......
