Solent slipways with tap for flushing?

I just realised I've got a minor problem-I can't get my new boat into the garage to flush it til I sell the sr4...so I'm restricted to launching/retreiving places where there's a tap to flush. Are there any that have one in the Solent?

Matt,

Might be easier to buy a long hose pipe. Alternatively you can come home via my house and use my hosepipe.

Cheers for the offer Nick but you'll still be in the Lightship when we recover won't you?

I've got a hose long enough to flush here but it's not really safe for the boat to do it unless I can get into the garage with it due to the high volume of chav teenagers who come past.

matt,

If I can get out on the water early enough I'll be coming in the same time as you.

Hamble point has a good one, although the launch fee ££ is a bit steep... the tap and very long hose is at the top right side of the slip.

apart from on one occasion, I've always find it quite relaxing launching there probably as there's lots of space and nobody gets in anyone way ...

I suppose the other alternative is to plug into a tap at a service station

I bet they wouldn't like that much...

I flush my engine after every trip, but I know far more people that dont. Also when I had my hard boat on my swing mooring that wouldn't get flushed from the start of the season til the end, I never had a problem with it.
Flushing your engine is obviously recommended but how quickly does it deteriorate if you don't and if you were buying a boat that was advertised as having the engine flushed after every trip, is there anyway you'd be able to tell?

A tip given to me but one I haven't tried is to:-

Once you've finished your trip for the day. Turn the engine off and go and get your car and trailer. This will allow the engine to cool. Once the engine is cool start it up again and get some fresh seawater in it. After a few seconds turn it off, so you now have seawater in your cooling tubes that won't crystalize or evapourate.

As I said I haven't used that system but it was passed on to me by a commercial boater who had been doing it for years as his boat was left in a marina during the summer and only taken out to get serviced and cleaned at the end of the season.

Also having said the above. My last engine which was a Yamaha had a nasty habit of getting the pee tube blocked with crystalized salt even though it was washed out regularly. Didn't cause the engine to overheat just a bit of worry on my behalf until I'd worked out what was happening.
