Small RIBS, total length on trailer.

Would I get a 4m RIB on trailer in a 5 metre garage? It's probably wishful thinking!

If not, what size WOULD fit? 3.5m? I'm looking at small RIBS for summer that'll cope with the wife and 2 kids for short trips across the islands.

Cheers

I sold my Mercury 4.2m RIB on a Snipe trailer and the buyer told me it fitted perfectly in his standard garage.

Seems to me that the trailer could also be a factor like the length of the boat, although it might be possible to make adjustments bringing the boat, rollers and axle forward to reduce the overall length. My current trailer has an exceptionally long drawbar but I like it when launching.

P.s. Sorry I don't have the measurement I gave him.

If you search for posts by user 9d280 and garage/trailer then several years ago I think he had a spreadsheet of what could be made to fit.

This must be the thread:

Recommendations for a 4m (ish) RIB

A standard garage is 3m x 6m, the doorway 2.1m x 2.1m (7ft/sq)

Here's other threads:

What size of rib to garage

Limited garage space - can I shorten draw bar / best trailers to use ?

It all hinges on the configuration of your trailer.

I have a 3.8 metre RIB, 4.2 including outboard. It is in a 6 metre shed.

However the drawbar is purposely made long.

I just checked it out and I could if I wanted to, have a 4 metre RIB and fit it into a 5 metre shed. But then again I'm a maniac with a cutter and welder.

Further to this, I have taken a photo of a Highfield RIB on it's trailer and scaled it down on my drawing program.

The drawing of which I will attempt to insert here. That didn't work. Should come up as an attachment.

The RIB is in a 4 metre long rectangle in White.

The Red rectangle is the full length of the boat and trailer and is 4.4 metres long.

As long as the trailer on the RIB you want has the same configeration as the trailer in the photo, it would fit.

A little bit of ingenuity & you can alter most trailers so theres little overhang at the front or the draw bar is easily removed I used to fit a 16ft6" speedboat in a standard garage many years ago. Which given that a rib has an overhang often equal to the engine the 16'6" speed boat was probably similar to a 5.2- 5.4m rib. Cant remember the length of the garage but it was a single on a modern ish housing estate so I doubt it was oversize.

Does it not depend on how your RIB is measured?

it's quite normal that they are measured internally, inside the tubes at the bow to the inside of the transom.
I don't think a 4M RIB will often be 4M in total length including the stern cones etc.

I'm not sure if a 4M RIB will always be 4M in total length including the stern cones etc.
No substitute for your own tape measure. The Mercury RIB I had was 4.2m total and the engine sat within the confines of the rear sponsons and my hard sided boat is 4.6m not including engine so probably the same waterline and total length as a 5m RIB, 7m on the trailer.

Yep they can also be different lengths depending on which continent their sold on. We have a regal 3560 which came from the states as a grey import the exact same boat sold in europe is a 3760 which make sense as the boat measures 37'6" why do the yanks call it a 3560? [emoji2357]
A tape measure is the only answer to will it fit

I can fit my X-Pro 420 defender with 40 HP Mercury in to my garage easily. I just have to remove the aerial.

Thanks for the replies.

I'd be happy enough keeping it outside if it's got a good full cover. So the search begins for a 4-5m RIB up to £6000 with a decent 4 stroke
