It strikes me that SR4 could be closer than we think, you seem very keen to resurrect him....................

I just thought he was the ideal guy to advise on whats inside the sinking floor as he has also just done an old searider 4 up including invasive work into the sinking floor.

Can you send him a pm please Dave

Cheers

Someone i know in Germany has done that too, he reinforced deck & transom but he closed the Flooding Hull - as the boat will be a Cover Boat for Rowing clubs etc. i want to retain the Flooding Hull.

I don't know what budget you've set yourself for this little project, but to gauge a comparison of UK prices on a good SR4, keep an eye on this:

rib avon 4m 40hp & trailer | eBay

May be worth towing it back from your UK visit.

Yup, i've seen the relatively low prices around here for SRs.

I've also talked it over with my Dad before, he said we can't drive all the way here to get me a boat.

So i'm staying with my project

Now, a Update, of what me and my friend did in the last few days

Thats what we started with

Then i ripped off the tubes at the sides and started to destroy the floor with a Jigsaw,

It didn't really work, so me and my Assistant got ourselves an Angle Grinder wich was much much better

Was quite Easy in the end

Just the rest of the deck that was laminated to the Hull remained, and we tore that off using a chisle and the angle-Grinder

Then we started sanding the hull on the inside, thats where we stopped, we worked from 9am to 4:30 PM

Thats how it sits in my garden, tomorrow we'll go on

We started the actual rebuild.
The Transom is built from 2 15mm plywood seperated by 3 layers of GRP

We also got a trailer

Today we shaped the deck

Before-After

Another contender for 'Boat in the House' award!
Keep them coming! One word of advice... make sure you sand the transom back and floor join so it's über smooth - once you flow coat it will highlight any imperfections.

Next Update - No pictures, but i will upload some.

We fibreglassed the bottom of the deck, and glassed the flotation chambers in.
We've also sealed all GRP that's exposed to the water in the flooding Hull.
The drain port has also been sealed, next weekend we will glass in the deck, and glass it over.

Then we only have to finish the sides of the transom, and then we can glue the tubes back on.

I'm asking how to do this? Should we get standart hypalon glue, and glue the tube directly on the GRP? or put another strip of hypalon in between?

Thanks in advance

Cant you get your girlfriend or mum to tidy round a bit and get some of the furniture moved out the way which will allow you more room to work ?
I'd be a bit annoyed if my wife didn't get her arse into gear move the carp out the way

Re sinking floor

Im a bit confused, if you open the hole up how are you going to protect the wooden floor from water damage to underside ?
