Until you have lived the dream, you shouldn't pass judgment.
If you bought a Scorpion you would understand what we all mean. As for defending themselves the customers will always do that for them....

The Scorpion I had was a great boat and believe they are the best RIB on the UK market.

As to why Scorpion don't reply on here I'd imagine it's a combination of
1) It won't make any difference to their sales
2) If the owner had an issue take it up with them and if he isn't satisfied follow up with a legal approach
3) Don't think Graham needs to appease a load of grumpy old git's with nothing else to do

At the end of the day I'm sure Rolls Royce can make a bad car but that doesn't mean there not the best cars ( not my choice but hey... )

Cheers

It could make a difference to their sales. If I had been treated better by them at Ribex and if I had heard the other side of the story about the boat with problems I too could have been a customer.

2 years ago I bought a 10 year old Scorpion, which exceeded all expectations. I live in the Channel Islands, and we get hit with the full fury of the Atlantic. I ran the boat for a full 2 seasons, including winter outings, and it never ever let me down (well the Optimax did, but that's another story ...). The rib itself is built with the most extraordinary attention to detail and build quality.

This year I treated myself to a new 8.5m. I put my old rib, Quick Exit, on the market and sold it in 3 days for £500 less than I bought it for. I've got zero criticisms of the new rib - the pacific rim seat at the stern, and superb build quality makes the boat really stand out (and it's yellow tubes help). The new rib lands better than the old one, it seems to have better weight distribution.

The experience of buying from Joyce (she's amazing!), and Graham's team was an absolute pleasure, and the after-sales service second to none.

I took the last rib through 30' F7 waves (witness to prove), and lived to tell the tale. There's nothing to beat it.

Do you have the stepped hull?

If I remember rightly that was a few years ago. They now have more sales people at the show (including me ) to ensure that all enquiries are dealt with. I sent you a pm when you mentioned this but unfortunately you didn't have the courtesy to reply...

Scorpion chose not to respond on this forum - that's their business & we must respect that. For all I know they might not even look at Ribnet.

It's a shame you are not a customer but I'm sure you are happy with your current boat.

Regards

Ian

Yes - at the time I was at Ribex I had money to burn sitting in the bank. It would have been Revenger or Scorpion and their red and white 9.75m would have been right up my street but it is the 8.5m I would have bought.

Now if I were to want a new boat(which I don't) it would be a Revenger stepped hull 1st and Scorpion 2nd so I have no bias against their boats themselves.

I do wonder though if the owners of bigger ribs are missing out a bit on the fun factor. Smaller boats are much more nimble - bit like concorde versus a pitts special.

if you had the cash burning a hole in your pocket and could afford a new scorp 8.5 plus then i am surprised you went down the economical route buying the engine you did and getting prosport.

What is wrong with the engine I have? Why waste money when there is no need? As to Prosport at the time I ordered it they were supposed to be OK to deal with - if I had known what sort of scumbag I was dealing with I would have run a mile.

As it turns out my boat is fantastic - I am annoyed with some minor finishing details but they can easily be put right for less than £1k. The engine is a gem and uses no more fuel than a 4 stroke. I would like a bigger engine because the hull is so good - a 300 for now unless Evinrude bring out a light 350 or 400. I do not want twins as I have said before.

The trailer was VERY VERY kindly loaned to me by John Price of Quinquari as the boat builder claimed a trailer wasn't included in the price. When I showed him the paperwork he turned around and said "Ah but it doesn't say WHAT trailer".....

Unfortunately the Guernsey legal system is somewhat different from the mainland but I haven't forgotten. I now have a mate with a fast private plane and Guernsey is only 1hr away!!!
