Looks to me like he is trying to find a gap between patches.

I enclose a picture of the incident which rightly has caused a good deal of comment around the world. (including funnies like never take a rubber boat to a knife fight)

Here is a pic of the yacht
What did the girl in purple expect sitting in a GP protest boat, as for the knife, a small hole would mean they would have to go back to port, I'm not on GP side any more, some of there little schemes are far from laudable

GP went downhill when they renounced their charity status & went Ltd. They said that charity status was too constraining on their activities, so they sold out, went commercial & got hijacked by extremists. As a Ltd Co. it's easier to skim off money too; if they wanted to that is, which I'm sure they don't Should have stuck to saving whales imho.

Esimit Europa 2

I worked with that yacht for a 6 days pre Cowes week out of portsmouth and there wasn't a Russian to be seen amongst the two crews. They were a completely mixed European crew with the odd Aussie and S.A and the Aussie skipper is a complete gentleman.

Perhaps greenpeace have overlooked that GazProm are one of many sponsors and i can hardly see them kicking up that much of a fuss over Rothschilds involvement !

It's a bl..y sailboat regatta, so i think that oildrenched polar bears and generally raping the Pechora sea will be the last on the mind of the crew/support in this Esimit racing project. Whatever the circumstances are during racing sailboats or those who intrude it/obstruct, flashing a knive is neither sportsmanlike nor part of any other form of acceptable social behaviour.
I also think it is also a rather stupid move, because it for sure will not have a good exposure for gazprom in any case, photoshopped or not, this picture shows it all and that is what will be remembered! (which is what sponsoring is all about i think?)

I wonder what the organisation of the regatta will do/decide in terms of gross misconduct (which applies in the racing rules of sailing to those who race sailboats AS WELL as their support). this whole story is a pity for jochen schumann skippering the boat, he is in fact a nice guy!

Guess these people are some sympathetic Gazprom security personnel, maybe ex OMON, who else would show a knife during a PR event/race? From a PR point of view, total disaster but no surprise if they will be rewarded by "head quarters". On the video can bee seen also the other person used a knife.....this looks even worse than on the photo.

Not that I am a big fan of GP but this is really scary behavior....
