One thought springs to mind - WHY risk life and limb trying to stop it when all it was doing was going around in cirlces??? Sooner or later it would have run out of fuel.

Ramming it with the lifeboat COULD have caused it to go shooting off at someone near by - also the lifeboat bloke was really putting himself at risk!!!

Maybe if the lifeboat had not attempted it, than maybe some have a go hero, would have tried it.

The lifeboat crew practice frequently going alongside boats, in all sorts of conditions and getting people on and off. So it was probably not to big a stretch for them to try it.

surprised there was a boat left to jump on after they ran it over

Should have called in an air strike.

Very dangrous situation could have been alot worse for the crew and everyone else if it hadnt got stuck in such a tight lock.

How many circuits and how long could that rib have done on a full tank? And whilst the Lifeboat peeps were sitting and waiting, others might have been in real danger elsewhere.. I would guess they sorted the situation out as they saw fit considering the circumstances.. Bearing in mind Southampton Water is kinda busy..

I've only watched it once but it appeared to stop at some point. The lads in the "D" class were a bit slow on the uptake and approached it too late before it set off again.

At the end of the video what I asume are the 3 passengers of the rib get of the yacht that rescued them (where the video is filmed from) and get onto the harbour launch.

None of them are wearing lifejackets

I think they were very luck to survive - the boat that picked them up must have been on the scene very quickly!!

Very lucky!!

Bear in mind one of the 3 occupants of the RIB were actually killed by it once in the water.

Are you sure? Can you link to it?

Three weeks it's a very short time to go from accident to published report.

Surely it was more than 3 weeks ago.. More like 3 years ago.. Unless there is a mistake on the linked page..

"Atlantis rescued 3 people from Southampton Water who had been thrown from a high speed rib on the evening of Sunday 16th June."

The last Sunday 16th of June we had was 2002..
