Ribeye HIN Plate Or Hull number

Hi everyone

Wonder if you can help - I'm just about to purchase my first rib & have seen a decent looking 6m ribeye. However, Im worried that the seller (3rd owner) doesn't have an original bill of sale & I can't find a hull plate showing all the boat details. There is an ID number on the transom but nothing else - is this normal or should there be another form of ID somewhere? I've looked on the stolen boat register & the hull number doesn't come up so maybe I'm just being paranoid, I'm just nervous as there doesn't seem to be any documentation with it.
Any advice please????
Many thanks
K

I don't have a lot of experience but i am about to buy my 5th boat and I have never got any more than the odd service receipt with any of mine but they have all been quite old and budget priced

Hi,

I think the importance of having the docs varies depending on the age of the boat and how much you are paying for it.

A boat should ideally have a HIN number on the transome (stamped into the gel-coat) which tells you the identity of the boat and when it was made. You should also ideally get an MCA bill of sale (identifying the the HIN and that the "shares" (ownership)) in the boat have been transferred to you. In addition, it would be important to get a receipt showing that at some point VAT has been paid on the vessel (otherwise you could have problems if you ever wished to take the boat abroad). Finally, a service record would be nice (although if its a modern engine it can be plugged into a laptop and its history downloaded).

However, I suspect that many boats are bought privately that don't have that sort of paper trail.

Regards

Steve

If it was first sold from the 16th June 1998 on, it would come under the Recreational craft directive.. And should comply with certain rules and regulations contained in the RCD.
One of those relates to the Hull Identification Number (HID)

Craft identification - Each craft shall be marked with an identification number including the following information:
manufacturer's code,
country of manufacture,
unique serial number,
year of production,
model year.

Builder's plate - Each craft shall carry a permanently affixed plate mounted separately from the boat hull identification number, containing the following information:
manufacturer's name,
CE marking
boat design category according to section 1,
manufacturer's maximum recommended load excluding weight of the contents of the fixed tanks when full
number of persons recommended by the manufacturer for which the boat was designed to carry when under way.

Thanks for your responses guys - I thought it should have some kind of plate with a CE stamp
Think i'll call up Ribeye & see if they can advise where it should be.
The only thing I found was a riveted plate with the HIN number on the transom. Perhaps it is stamped somewhere else on the hull as well.

Is the plate on the transom much larger than necessary for the hint no?
I had a boat where all the screenprinted info had degraded to the point where nothing was left to read and only the stamped hin could be seen

No - its just a small plate riveted on with a long number. I've contacted Ribeye & apparently their records don't go back that far (it's a 2005 model) to check it.
Does anybody else have a Ribeye that has a number stamped into the gelcoat perhaps in a more hidden spot? I'm used to cars that usually have two id numbers located in different spots so you can check nothing has been tampered with.

My 2006 Ribeye has the hull No. stamped in the hull on the outside of the hull + a plate on the inside of the transom under the engine.
