Shouldn't be, not got my copy at the office with me today but I'll check but there weren't any painters on board?

I've checked the photos from the day (We have all of the high res images) and not one photo shows a painter/bow line on board. Sure its not the sikaflex around the Kevlar keel bands that your seeing

RIB Magazine

From what I know, Rib Magazine is still going. However, his other magazines have been bought out by another publisher - it looks like Mr Swan has taken a bit of a tumble...

There is only so much going on in the RIB world that you can write about, hence I guess why it went a bit "bling" and moved into other types of boat. I personally would like to see more "how to" articles and tips for your average boater.

I know the guys at Oyster House, and if it had gone pop which it sounds like it has I feel very sorry for them because they really did put heart and soul into all of their publications and events. Fingers crossed this years show at Gunwharf is a success.

well he has had his share of being put down on here and I do think the mag had gone too far into the fantasy world ( well for most of us it is) of unaffordable boats and exploits, BUT Hugo has kept the only worthwhile magazine aimed at our boating sector going for years and if it did go it would be a loss to us all. The addition of powerboat to the title was really inevitable in order to expand the readership after sportsboat went. So if ya reading this Hugo-sorry for the news but hope you can keep our mag going and rebuild your businesses around it

Hmm .. I thought some of the coastal expeditions were pretty good in the past, sure they reviewed lots of expensive kit, I think that attracts readers, a bit of RIB porn if you like, but they also reviewed plenty standard kit too imho, maybe not the right balance though.

I agree with Tim M ... some more' how to' articles would be good .. but ofcourse they take a lot of research time, and that costs money.

I restore vintage tractors from time to time () And there are several devoted collectors magazine titles that have pretty good readerships,(not just for restorers) where there are endless articles about restorers work, I know RIBs arent seen in that category, but actually they are! .. theres countless threads about people doing them up, maybe the mag tries too much to position its self at new buyers, and new 'converts' to the cause , when it would be better spending time on those who are already converted.

I think also they must have addressed this directional problem at some time, because, they did have articles about seamanship, where to go, all that sort of stuff ... best undiscovered coasts etc etc which I also thought very worthy,

I dunno ... I ramble (and Ive been interrupted ) ...

I still get the digital edition and will continue to support them..

It might not be perfect...I come here for that

However I would rather pay £15 and enjoy the articles that relate to my boating interests than give up on them and not have it at all...

Lets be honest 90% of Rib owners do not self build, do little to no maintenance and would rather buy a turnkey package from Ribeye or similar and pay someone to service it once a year at the drystack. Its no suprise that the magazine will lean more in that direction...

souf coast ribbers mate - they're all rolling in wonga and just pay a man to do that sort of thing.

However, the serious "diy'ers" are generally not the customers that the advertisers are trying to target - they are looking for people with money in their pockets itching to spend it on shiny overpriced "marine" bling. This is perhaps different from your "classic tractors" where pretty much everyone is in the tinkering game and the market is for specialist spares and services to help you do that.

Thank you all for your concern. It has been a tough time I don't deny. We had to voluntarily liquidate one of our 4 companies and sell the business of another which was largely responsible for the music magazines and music events side of our business. However, although we published RIB Magazine under the Oyster House Media umbrella for a while, the boating side has always been separately owned and remains unaffected, hence now we are able to solely focus on Powerboat & RIB magazine and it's show, returning to where we started 18 years ago! It's full steam ahead with PBR which has been accepted well and may I take this opportunity to thank you all for your support. The market is tough for everyone, but we are excited about the new look magazine and look forward to developing it further over the months and years to come. Your ideas are always welcome, and I hope you enjoy the addition of Peter Caplen's 'How To' series, and we have more of these type of articles planned. The next issue will be out next week and we hope very much to see you at the show.
Best wishes. Hugo

Well when you consider this thread was started by someone moaning aboult the quality of the paper ? whats the point in complaining about content ? ... I mean... I know many would take the mag into the khazi ... but I always thought it was for a read

Ah well... ChavBote and RiB, it is.

Hugo I have subscribed to the digital version of your magazine on my iPad but the quality of the images is appalling. other magazines seem to be able to supply high resolution images in their digital versions. obviously for those of us that enjoy the bling stuff the pictures are important. will you be sorting this in future issues?

HMS On a side note. Your book "Heavy Weather Powerboating" is one of the most enjoyable, informative and interesting books i have ever read. It inspired me to adventure further with more preparation of kit and knowledge of dangers behind me.

In addition it gave me the impetus to organise the RIBnet rally of last year and this up in North Wales, with 18 and 28 boats respectively. The former was featured in Rib International mag last year. These I believe have enabled many inexperienced boaters to venture further in safety. So a big Thank you.

Best of luck with the mag.
