RIB Int - Rayglass Protector A serious question

I agree. My comment towards the start was mainly to do with the one article not the mag in total. Generally I enjoy it and look forward to it dropping through the door. I would imagine the job of producing it each month is incredibly difficult and howver many people involved they deserve a lot of credit imo.

I, like many people it seems, have a few issues that we would like to see improved and I hope they will be but generally I think they do a good job considering the specialist nature.

My other gripe, whilst I'm thinking of it (!) is that if you read a number of boating publications its a little tiresome to read tests on the same boat in the same month or thereabouts in different mags. Probably a function of the journos being invited to test days so understandable in a way but niggling nevertheless.

Totally agree with whats written, i voted with my feet a year ago when i found that Rib international (biased monthly) was a glorified advertising mag for local produce,I wrote to R Int a few years ago reference a "well done" letter for a particular dealer, No response, also enquired about the round uk trip recently held, No response.

Also its pretty dull reading to find the editor features nearly on every other page not being the most photogenic is pretty off putting.

Maybe if the editor spent more time on the matters that count, and created something of interest to non millionaires whilst avoiding knocking on their door at teatime and preaching!!

I seriously doubt it. He publishes two other mags as well and organises music events etc. Ribex is probably more to promote the mag rather than generate huge profits.

Ah! In that case he does well to write anything at all in RibInt.

RJH - Yes, I still enjoy the mag too and I enjoy his articles and boat reviews - even though he doesn't always have the time to use the spell checker.

It could be said that it's our fault (RIBers, Ribsters?) that the mag isn't full of interesting articles about 'ordinary' RIBs, tweaks, set up, fit outs, cruises, hairy moments, good places to visit, etc. Somebody has to write them and it strikes me that Hugo might be a tad too busy.

Who's going to give it a go?

The cost of a stand or pontoon space at Ribex is pretty steep. And strangely, you can't buy a copy of RIB International at the show (unless this changed in 2009?). The exhibition is run as a separate limited company. Put those three pieces of information together and go figure.

I must admit that I have also found the mag has started to drift off in a direction that does not really fit with my interests when it comes to Ribs and I have always been a strong supporter. I actually sent a response to them when they emailed me to renew my subscription with some constructive feedback and I got a very full response from Hugo outlining the plans for articles in 2010 which I thought was good customer service so I am going to give it another year and see how it shapes up.
