Stuart,
My experience of Irish marine brokers makes me believe that it's the "piece of string syndrome". At the boat show they looked at each other and said things like ....I suppose around 400 euro. It's time we talked as a group to the UK insurers and get some quotes. 1400 euro you wouldn't pay that for a porche 911

Luke I absolutely agree !

The one thing that scared an Insurance person I spoke to today was That I'll go shopping in the UK !!

As you know, we would have reasonable influence within the Irish Motorboat Fraternity and could bring quite a few clients with us !!

I'll give euromarine a call tomorrow !

About time that we tried to gather the Irish Motorboat Fraternity together ( RIBS, Shannon / Motor Cruisers Power / Ski Boats etc.

I was thinking of setting up an Irish Motorboat Forum using the v bulletin software on www.powerboat.ie .

A More general forum..Boats with engines from Ireland as mentioned above so not in competition / opposition to here.

We could establish Fraternal links with Rib.Net as well as with other groups.......

Anyone interested ?

Stuart

Marine Insurance

Hi folks....

Update !!

Allianz Direct who were running Google ads for Rib Insurance on RIB .Net up to last week tell me today that they do not insure RIBs or other Fast Craft ( over 17 Knots).

Their spokes person told me that the wording of the ad was done by Google un-beknownst to them and that they have now asked Google to remove the Rib Net ad.

Allianz a sister company who deal with brokers do insure RIBs ( We are currently with them), but quote telephone numbers !! We have objected to their quote through our broker and still await a reply.

Just off the phone after a very friendly and helpful chat with Euro Marine who will be back to me shortly and who sound quite promising ( once you have ISA / RYA Level 2 ).

Not sure yet what is happening at Allianz in general. I feel that there is a larger story here and will continue my investigations. A marine Insurance professional who I spoke to today feels sure that Allianz Direct are still insuring RIBs but it depends on who answers the phone ! This would seem to tie in with what I am hearing on the ground.

Best wishes,

Stuart

Update

Alianz contacted my broker today and have now halved their original quote of €1400 to €700 !!!!!

I am still not happy and hve told my broker to tell them so !

The Irish Sailing Association have now got involved and will be making representations to the Insurance Industry in coming days.

Still waiting for news from Euro Marine but am hopeful of a more realistic quote.

Stuart

Update (€1000 saved !!)

Our original quote of over €1400 from Allianz for a 6 metre RIB has now dropped to €450 which I consider on the high side of acceptable !

I'm heading abroad at the weekend for a few weeks so I have agreed rather than haggle further !!

It pays to haggle (€1000) !!!

Looking forward to putting my shiny new ( Insured) Parker Ally Cat on the water this weekend!

Pics will follow!

I am continuing the Insurance War with my ISA hat on !

Best wishes,

Stuart
