Rib Building Video

This is quite interesting if you haven't seen tubes being made. The video will play by clicking on the link if you have broadband, for modems you might have to save it to the hard drive then play it. Click on the real player links.

If tubes are that quick to build why are they so expensive !!.

Good question, think the material is about £90 per sq metre

And Ribtec at the boat show quoted ooooh about four grand to retube a 6.5m boat. Guess its a trip to Leyland to see Eurocraft then,

That price does sound a bit over the top. Have you tried Henshaws for a quote? IMHO they make better tubes than Ribtec/Ribeye anyway.

ribtec

Iwas under the impression that henshaws did ribtecs tubes for them anyway, as two of their boats were waiting to be done when I dropped mine off in wincanton last year. Is that not the case?

Last thing I heard, Ribeye were bringing the manufacture of all their RIB tubes in house, either at their factory in South Africa (for Ribeye brand boats) or in Dartmouth (for Ribtec brand boats).

Before they were bought by Ribeye, Ribtec had always had Henshaw tubes so perhaps they have decided to stick with it after all.

Two things

When I need some tube work done I am going to call Nick at Sealion first ! he is on this Forum under the name of Nick

I think Henshaws make the tubes for the proper Ribtecs and the ribeyes are made from the SA tubes. Ribtec are based in the Marina I use and I see a Henshaws transit there quite often. If I needed to retube my Camel then I certainly wouldn't want my tubes to be made by the people that make Ribeyes tubes

The third point of the two which I wish to make is that I have found Ribtec to be rather greedy when it comes to performing work on their boats
