Relentless rain in Portsmouth, who's boating?

I am down at my boat in Portsmouth, it has been relentless rain for the past few hours and looks to be continuing through the night, lucky I fitted the auto bilge pump, the boat would have been flooded after this weeks rain Pump has done its job so very happy with it, it's still pumping now!

Hoping to get out tomorrow, Sunday is looking fine, may do a blast to Cowes

Anyone else out this weekend

But will make the best of it

Was going out fishing tomorrow as tides are perfect for a drift fishing offshore. Going off the shore instead.

My feelings into this years weather.

Having said that i did get some great days out in March and April but not much since.

Three of us are planning boating in the morning but the forecast has just this second changed to heavy rain AGAIN.

I'll be coxing our dive boat for diving a wreck off Shanklin followed by a drift dive over the Bembridge ledges Sat afternoon. Forecast is not too bad they reckon? Say hi to the blue Ribcraft with orange radar reflector if you see us?

My dry suit has been lovingly cleaned and hung up for what i thought was summer and all i've got now is my speedo's Now if 25 knts in heavy rain in some of them classes me as a southern softie, so be it.......

However the wonderful peeps at the met office have now changed the forecast to light rain. We have made the decision to go for it.

If only we could have a few days like last year

Sandown Bay was my Plan B for boat fishing tomorrow, but it's just started it chucking it down again here in Fareham and I fear it'll be the same tomorrow. I just can't be assed to sit in my RIB all day and get soaked. I guess it doesn't matter if you're diving. Have a nice day out and hope it's flat enough for you.

I had some nice trips in March and April too, but none since then. I missed two opportunities last month waiting for a spare part At least I'm saving some money

No, but I have thought about going all Hard Boaty a couple of times in the last year. I even trialed an Arvor 250 at the end of last year I decided that I can't justify paying for boat on a mooring or in a Marina. So perhaps something that can live on a trailer.

Weather is looking better on Sunday, so we may actually get out for a little trip. Might see you out. I'll give you a shout on the VHF to see if you are around.

I was looking at the Arvor berth the the Southampton Boat Show last year. The salesman had great delight in showing me around, looking in that nook and the other cranny. When at last we started to talk about engine performance and cruising speeds. He was quite boastful about it's top speed of 24 knots from a 230hp diesel, I couldn't help mask my dropped jaw and disappointment. I immediately asked him if there was a more powerful engine

There is definitely a performance penalty to having a boat with a lid on it. My new one's got twin 300hp diesels and cruises at 16 knots And burns 1mpg - double
