Red Sea Rally

Just heard from Richard Strawford who was invited out to drive one of the Egyptian boats with a 250xs on it. We have had some problems with an insurance claim from last year (all of the British crews and nothing received yet!), and the organiser offered Richard a boat to race.

It seems that it is now about 150m below the surface of the Red Sea. I am happy to report that the crew are fine. It seems that two other boats lost engines on a reef.

Interesting that this is the first news we have had! I understood that the organisers were going to post daily reports here. They even link here from their home page as their forums!

Last year they stood on the end of a pier waving a chequered flag some distance from the official GPS finish waypoint, chaos ensued and it was assumed the finish had been moved (this would have been the second time in two days).

It transpired there was a reef 50 metres beyond where the flag was being waved!

Yeah these guys where in front of us when we sow them flipping over, we thought! Afther seconds it went out to be the Tube that ript of the boat. However there was one guy missing in the boat, i show him floating in the water, dove into it and helped him out. The guys doing well, but the boat sunk, the pulled it into swallow water. No news afther that.

More pictures of the redsea ribrally can be found at www.teamjackscasino.com and at www.teamasrm.com

Hi there Cookie

reason why they ran upon corals, well as we noticed some teams where racing 4 the first time, some dutchies done pretty good, others didn't realy know what the heck they where doing... first race cutting corners a mile infront the first marker, and dont know why they lost points ??? Losing your 250 crashing upon a reef and think you where on track?? nah !! ( shoulda been all DQ, but raceofficer Vanlancker was presured by the organisers. We had 2 plot several GPS tracks for other teams in the other class as we ran supersport, but happy to help them out...we all started somwhere didn't we :-) also problems with startprocedures, some realy dont know you cant pass the startboat, afterall... a good rally and a easy first place for us, as the greek topline33 had major problems. first race DNF second race DNS .... happy for that Dutch girls team who finished second... well done!

Fortwo, congratulations on your win at the supersport class!!

It would have been worth mentioning though that in the last 2 of the 4 races where Topline 33 did manage to start (and finish..) they beat you!

maybe mod's can move this topic to the already existing "red sea rally" topic

< Edit: Whoosh! JK >

good job Katja & Mr. Cramer. I'm sure "V"DER"V" didn't teached you how to navigate and use a GPS. Otherwise you also ended up the corals, wink, wink.
