Prop turned no Drive ?

hi
I was out last Sunday in the Mania straights supporting RNLI boat run .All went well at first trip up to Puffin island ,Chips at Beaumaris ,then circle round waiting for RNLI to launch .As soon as they moved off my problem out of the blue no drive .Propeller turned in water increasing speed with throttle but no movement .Sadly i was towed out to ABC boatyard,
Back home to Stoke to sort out ,who knows the answer
Its all done now and fairly inexpensive .The boat is 10 years old 5.5 Humber Destroyer with 75HP Mariner engine 18 pitch prop
A BIG thank you to EAST CHESHIRE BSAC who towed me in

Check the bushing on the prop. It may have sheared. You can press new rubber bushings in, however alignment isn't guaranteed. Better to get a new prop.

If you have a spare prop or can borrow one, test it under the same conditions. If you get better performance, you have your diagnosis.

Sound like you may have a spun hub.

On a 75 hp Mercury/Mariner I think you'll have a Flo-torq hub.
Assuming no other issue then you'll probably just need to replace the hub, not the prop.

Worth a read: http://www.mercurymarine.com/en-gb/e...th-a-spun-hub/
