Ocean Rib?

Hi Guys,

Been told the Rib in the centre of the photo is an Ocean 6.75mtr but have struggled to find any info in the internet when typing in Ocean 6.75mtr.
Is Ocean the builder?

Cheers far any help in advance.

It does look like an Ocean Rib. The company that made Ocean traded under Ocean, Windsor Brothers, Purewell Fish Farming Equipment and a few names in-between. They were built just outside Portchester / Fareham.

There isn't an awful lot to say really.

Very strongly built commercial boats that are quite heavy for their size and good in rough weather.
Can be a bit 'rough around the edges', or not finished off perfectly with regards to trim etc as they are mostly built to work hard rather than look good.

Our 6.5M version is a good all round boat for what we do.

Would definately buy another one, and if I had the cash to buy new I'd get them to produce a bare hull and tubes in 7.5M inboard form and fit it out myself.

I'm not sure they are making that many any more since they moved to Hambledon.

I've not seen or spoken to Malcolm in ages now, but the website is still up and running
Ocean Ribs New Ribs Boats For Sale In The UK Ocean Ribs New Ribs Boats For Sale In The UK

If you search my posts and gallery about 'The Nashers Revenge' you'll see more images of bits of the RIB.
You could also search for posts by Razorbill RIBs as Dan has a 6.5m that he uses commercially.

Nice Pic. I bought 2 x 6.25m's from Malcolm. A fantastic all rounder. Great in big seas. My first one is exactly the same as Nasher but with one of the old Johnson 150 GT's on it. Part ex'd for another one with slightly different layout. The new deeper V hull he developed later on was even better.

I believe they are all basically the same hull with the mold blocked off at the stern to the length required.

Remember the 6.75 on the Ocean refers to the length of the actual hull without the tube sticking out at the bow and the ends of the tubes sticking out behind the transom.
With tubes it will be @8M overall length.

What you guys reckon the hull only is worth, then retubed and painted. Will eventually get an engine may have to sell my other rib first.

That's what was on the back of it when I brought it very cheap in 2004.

It was only 5 years old then, but was a right mess, so I eventually stripped back to a bare hull and tubes to sort out. Adding the DT200EFI at the time.

I tried it with the Johnson a couple of times before the strip down and nick-named it the 'Petrolator' because I'd never seen anything consume so much petrol with so little to show for it.

I understand Malcolm and Colin picked up a bunch of the 150VROs still in their crates after being shipped out to somewhere like Saudi 10 years earlier.
Or is that a Boating Urban Myth?

There were also big holes in the transom which had been patched. It looked like it had gone aground at speed and the engine mounting bolts had pulled right through.

It might me mine. I only had it for one year from new when I got the second one with a Merc 135. Gave the yellow one back to Ocean on PX. it was immaculate, so something must have happened in between. That was the late 90's. Totally agree on the fuel. The GT used even more than the standard. I bought it separately from a company on Hayling Island that Malcolm put me on to, but you're right they were a job lot of un-used engines already about 10 years old. Cheap enough to buy though.
Where do you keep the boat now?

I envy you.

I'd love a project like that at the moment, but wouldn't want to sell my Ocean to fund it.

Good luck

RIBase
Just caught up with this as have been offline for a fortnight since the move..... Looks a great project..... As Nasher has said we run a 6.5. Its a lovely BIG 6.5 with great freeboard, great hull and all in all a very capable boat.....I'd buy another Ocean hull without hesitation. Its also true that they can be 'rough round the edges' but seeing as you are doing a rebuild that isn't going to be an issue for you..... look forward to watching your project progress

EDIT Just looked again at your pics, could just be the angle (and I have never seen two the same....they were built to order) but that may be the 6.25m version???? There will be a serial number stamped in the glasswork on the outside of the transom usually on the PHS near the waterline.....if you can find it, Malcolm can probably help you out with details..... You've prob done a search on here by now, so have seen the differing views on Winsor Bros etc..... but all I can say is that my experience is that Malcolm has always been incredibly helpful and pleasant to deal with

Thanks Guys for the info, I will need to check the size so will look for the serial no and drop Malcolm an email.
The first picture shows the boats length better, I've seen her next to a 6mtr and 6.5 and still looks longer.
Hopefully get it done by summer.
