there bad this year all this bloody rain!! Report in the paper last week saying nationally (GB) there is a 300% increase generally, Galloway forest is the worst with 800% increase-christ!! But Argyll is around the 400% increase so bring plenty SSS. Tony was on a week or two back saying be had bought a couple bottles of Deet, two wont be enough with any luck for him

Aye, DEET at 50% for skin and 100% for associated fabrics is fine, it deters them from biting but it doesn't keep them (at that density) out of yer mouth, ears, nose, eyes, drinks, food, etc...

They may not be biting, but they're not the most attractive additive.
