no fuel in containers

Seems to be one of those bureaucratic beauties whereby a 20 litre metal jerrycan is OK to "transport" petrol, but the max size for "storing" it is 10 litres... so if you fill a 20litre can for the boat but then don't use it seems you're supposed to transfer it into two smaller cans - or put it into the main tank if there's room, which rather defeats the object if the 20l was supposed to be kept as an extra supply for emergency backup....

Also note the regs about storing any amount of fuel over and above a couple of 5l cans for the lawnmower are pretty stringent in terms of what kind of building, walls to prevent fuel flowing out in the event of fire, etc. Stacking the garage with 20l gerries full of petrol is a definite no-no!

I filled 6 x 5l plastic cans of petrol last week at the local garage, no problem. They are stored in the shed at home which is at the side of the oil tank containing 2500litres of kerosene. The gas barbeque with 19kg propane cylinder is next to the shed. The boat with 2x 90l fuel tanks (full) is about 3m away from the shed. The shed houses my diving gear which includes 2x12l cylinders of O2@200bar & a 45l of O2@240bar, should I inform the council, police, fire brigade, HSE et al. Oh! I forgot the acetylene cylinder in the garage next to the shed

Don't be silly, no one in the council will make a decision - that's why they work for the council, so they don't have to make decision - just hide behind all the red tape!!!!
