new foul weather gear........

I know its coming up to the summer but I need to buy a jacket and salopettes.I already have an HPX drysuit, so I was thinking of staying with musto again probably hpx, but if any of you can suggest another alternative which is good gear then I would like to hear from you. I was considering henri lloyd and someone even mentioned clothing from decathlon but I have no experience of this make. The new gear will be used for sailing as well.

regards richard

I know it comes down to personal choice, but I am sold on Henri Lloyd. If you are happy to have 'last years style' you can pick up some real bargains and the stuff lasts.

I still have an Ocean jacket that I bought in the mid eighties and it is still perfectly servicable as a spare for guests.

This is probably the worst time in the season to purchase foul weather gear. Can you wait until the autumn boat shows??

Tony.

Given your location you might be worth hacking down the M20 to Ashford. Not normally a place worth visiting (I can say that with impunity - I grew up there ) but they have a designer outlet village that conveniently has a Henri Lloyd store. I've got some real bargains there in the past

Its got to be Musto IMHO. If you have a free day get over to AquaTogs in Cowes; stuff is very cheap. I got a Henri Lloyd Oracle top from there last October for £19.99!! There were various stands at the boatshow in Jan selling them for about £80. Got nice Musto salopettes from them Ribex weekend for £90. Normal price £180.

Well I assume it's because they either get end of lines, or cancelled orders, and they sometimes get seconds. I was in the market for some of the new Musto Evolution kit (guess why) and they had some tops in there which were apparently seconds. The label said they had a hole. I looked all over and couldn't find it. It turned out to be a tiny tiny hole caused by one of the security tag pins. Unfortunately they didn't have my size so I ended up paying full price in the Musto shop down the road.

The Oracle tops were a mystery to me though. They had them in there when they first came out at such a low price. I rang them back when I realised how much the tops should have been with the intention of buying all the ones they had left and selling them on ebay but they had all gone. They said it was a one-off lot so who knows.

A lot of the stuff is just out of date; musto shirts (the nice ones) with volvo 5 oceans 06 on for £15 etc.

We have bought a lot of XM Offshore Oilies for use with our big Rib for Grab work (heavy work on the engine hatch cover) and everyone has been very impressed with them. The quality is very good, with nice features such as the shoulder torch pocket a la Henri Lloyd, and Kevlar instead of Cordura on the knees, arms and bum. One of the other sections in work spent nearly twice as much for Gill gear that didn't look as good, and won't wear as well.
