new engine for my ribcraft 5.40...

Hello everybody,
i finally go for a Yamaha 115 2 stroke for my ribcraft 5.40.
But i was wondering how to set the position of the engine on the rear desk to get the best navigation condition of the boat even at full speed (to avoid the boat to go from on side to the other at full speed, which is quite unpleasant).

the previous engine was shift on the right side of 1 inch from the center of the rear desk (when looking at the boat from the rear), which was quite surprising because usually engine are shifted on the left side of the rear desk to avoid the boat going from one side to the other at full speed.
Is there any special setting for a ribcraft 5.40?
Has any member has a ribcraft 5.40 with same engine or quite the same? and if so, how is the engine set on the boat?

thank you for your help,
best regards,
Eric.

Offset is usually to counter prop torque, which will turn the boat to one direction under power.

It sounds like you are talking about chine walking (in which the boat, when on plane, will tend to "fall" to one side then bounce back to the other. Lots of variables in the cause, the simple method of stopping it is to slow down. Do a search on this forum or on the web for chine walking and you may find some help.

Luck;

jky

yes , chine walking is what i wanted to talked about.
I also have the possibility to place steering console further back, but i don't know if it's a good choice?

Drop Jason an e-mail at Ribcraft...sure he'll put you straight.
Hadd on here has a 545 and I'm sure would't mind checking the Fixing points...that has a 130 E-tec on her, relay Fly's and does'nt Chine Walk at all..... unless trimmed right out....and most all do it then, if they have a decent amount of Power!
Great Hull aren't they!
Oh and 'Rear Desk' should read 'Transom'...if you e-mail Jace
