new affordable suspension seats?????

did anyone see these at the southamton boat show? costal pro seats that just replace the cushion part of your seat? looked good and felt pretty good to sit on, would be interested to know more . any one got any more info, ,

I presume you've found www.coastalpro.co.uk whilst cheaper than most (all?) suspension seats I don't think its so cheap that the average leisure user will be upgrading all his jockies! I'm always worried about little people's fingers and moving parts - with the mechanism being closer to the occupier of the seat and "quite" exposed this might? be worse for that?

Firstly, when you fit these seats, how do you get into the jockey seat storage?

I am also concerned about moving parts in the seats. We are reviewing shock and how to reduce this on commercial RIBs but as all operators are aware the costs are prohibitive. Even if costs came down, how do we stop moving parts on the seats from actually causing a more serious injury to our clients then shock could cause. Presently I see the injury from moving parts on this type of seat being a greater risk than shock as we can reduce shock with the way boats are driven.

Also all shock reducing seats we have seen are taking up more space on the RIB so we would not be able to carry as many clients on the RIBs unless we bought even larger boats.

Pod seats using shock reducing foam appears to be a simple way forward or shock reduction with a floor covering, but as yet we have yet to see manufacturers producing pods seats with just foam changes. Is this possible?

I saw the coastal pro seats on the Ribcraft stand at the Southampton show. They had fitted a hatch to the rear of the pod enabling access, though it seemed pretty limited.

My other concern with the seats is they are not available with 'winged backs' which I find to be more valuable in rougher weather than the extra cushion that the seats give you.

surely the unit is much deeper than a standard jockey cushion. therefore if the idea is to replace your cushions, you will need some cuban heels too?

but it does look like the seat would go very high unless the suspension were really soft, then there would be no give.

From the pictures these look great !. I might pop down to Ribcraft for a test sit.

Looking at the top pics I would say that the seat would "sit" much lower if you have all your weight on it then when you are standing it would come up higher so you are still supported.

Would need to see it in action of course my main concern when I have seen videos of the Scott Seats and Ullmans is the amount of side to side movement. Also they are ridiculous money IMO.

I've had me arse planked on a Scot Seat at 50kts+. The lateral movement is noticeable but it acts to shield you from sudden sideways shifts. It really isn't an issue.

The money, well, that depends on yer priorities...

I had a good look at these at the show and was getting excited when I was told they were a new affordable alternative to Ullmans etc, and thought I wouldn't have to make my own after all, but then walked away when I found out they were £850ea. Affordable my A**e.

However I did carefully wrap my fingers underneath the edges of the seat whilst applying some weight, and can confirm there was enough room that they didn't get trapped.

Because of the shape of the sides you would actually have to try quite hard to get your fingers up underneath in any sort of dangerous position. I didn't look at them from behind however to see if the same was true.

That's "from" £850 - you could easily get that to being £1000 a piece if you want/need the optional extras.

Its good to hear that "entrapment" isn't the risk it looks like - although what you can do when sitting on it and what a child or customer can manage to do when getting on/off the boat may not be the same!

thanks for all your thoughts, of all the seats ive seen all the moving parts on this seat were the most protected, and £800it is a third of the price of the rest, plus you would have very little work putting them on, compare to ullam, we were thinking of adding two more jockeys to ur rib , so if you think of the cost of seat , cushion and wingback [in our case ] its not that much more, as for height [being vertically challenged myself] they seemed perfect, all scotts and ullams are heigher than jockeys, your more in a standing then sitting position on them.having said all that, i would need to see them out in the rough stuff first before spendin that money

Yes I saw them ,and sat on a rib with them did not rate them,try scotseats first class
