Tube Repairs finished

9)-11) Finished piccies of my Ribtec now Paul Tilley has finished the repairs on the tubing.

We've now towed her home, and will start some of the other jobs.

I'm really pleased with the way she looks . I reckon Paul's done a fantastic job

Looking smart Andrew! Have you got a launch date in mind?

Looks a great job - maybe Paul should post some pics of his before and after jobs - then again he's too busy making tubes!!!

Thanks everyone

Next step must be getting a VHF on board. I've got a Navman 7100 sat in a box here waiting to be fitted, along with a Vtronic aerial.

I've also found that the discovered that she has a full offshore flare pack on board , and they all ran out of date in either 1991 or 1998 . I've got an indate coastal pack so that isn't too much of a problem, but what's the best way of disposal of the old ones. I know that Chandlers won't take them back in but does anyone know whether the CG will dispose of them in a safe and appropriate manner?

Also there has been a lot of crud growing on the bottom, and whilst it has been anti-fouled there are still barnicles and quite a selection of weeds growing on it. I've started to scrape some of the muck off, and the antifoul appears to be "vaguely" water soluble, but at the rate progress I'm making with a stiff brush and soap solution I'd reckon all the old antifoul should be off by 2009 . I know that samt mentioned using a pressure washer earlier in this thread, but does anyone else have any other suggestions.

Other job that really needs sorting sooner rather than later is to get the brakes on the trailer fixed - at the moment the cable isn't even attached to the handle.

However can't complain - I got her for a cracking price, and now that Paul has worked is magic she's looking really quite sweet. I'll keep posting pictures as the work progresses.

Kathleen and Paul: Hoping we might get a "practice" lauch in within the next couple of months - just a pootle around the harbour to see how she runs.

Codders: You are quite right some more piccies of Paul's B4 and after work will be of interest to all. You may well also be right about time constraints though as I know he has a stack load of work on at the moment. There was another 13m Crompton on the pad at Tidel when I picked my one up

the top of the old tubes was fairly well worn so we removed all the handles ect then sanded the tubes ,cleaned with thinners and primed with two coats of thinned glue then recovered with new fabric using two coats of glue on both surfaces and finally fitted new handles ect.

Very good, obviously much cheaper than completely re-tubing!

Can you reveal any trade secrets or hints & tips for removing bonded handles from the tubes (mine are damaged and needing replaced)?

either heat them up with a hot air gun and peel back gently hoping you dont delaminate the fabric or grind them off with an angle grinder very carefully

My pleasure Paul - you guys have done a really cracking job. She's only been sat at home for 3 days now and you wouldn't believe the number of comments that I've had from people walking past - all very positive!!

Yeah - I know that you were tempted, so cheers for letting me have it

I have to confess that getting her onto the front garden was slightly more of a challenge than I'd expected. Not only was she almost 1.5m longer than my old rib, but the trailer is stands pround by another meter. [understatement_mode=on] it made for a bit of fun on Saturday evening [understatement_mode=off] but we got there in the end

Will keep you all posted with more photos as she's cleaned up

Andrew
