Mobile 'Phones

Hi

I've just seen a mobile 'phone advertised in 'Dive' magazine that I am sure will appeal to all ribsters and inflatable owners (I include inflatables so that I don't feel left out).

It is the Ericsson R310 which is WATER, shock and dust resistant. Ideal for use in a boat.

There is a special offer on at the moment which includes the following:
FREE Connection, FREE Calls, FREE Charger, FREE Battery pack, FREE car charger, FREE Hands free, FREE mount, FREE Delivery AND a FREE years subscription to DIVE magazine AND a FREE outdoor adventure kit with a compass, spirit level, magnifying glass, thermometer, ruler.

What more could the adventurous owner of a rib want?

No website just a FREE phone number 0800 833129.

Sounds good and a water resistant mobile phone would certainly be a great in a boat.

Cheers

Keith (diddle dum dah, diddle dum dah, diddle dum dah dee) Hart

PS Just say it quick and you will see what I mean!

I have the Ericson Mobile Phone you are referring to.... the aerial is also great for shooting peanuts across the bar at people who annoy you!

This telephone is very good until it is submerged in a full pint of Guiness then it packs up! I know.

Mine didn't survive...........

RB4 and I was in a 30ft RIB!

The contacts at the bottom tend to corrode. Reminds me I must get around to sending back to Ericsson.

But I have to say that it has stood up to the general abuse I inflict on mobile phones much better than any other phone I've had to date!

Keith

First, accept my compliments for beeing a "Senior member".

As far as THE indestructible mobile phone I recommend the R250 S by Ericsson. It is really waterproof (actually it works underwater). Having used it for the past 1 1/2 years by a friend of mine (who can easily being described as an "iron eater") it sure is THE phone for ribsters. When he bought it, he was given an extra long antenna as well, (about 40 cm) in order to use it when the signal is very very weak. The phone has a built in feature to use it as a walkie-talkie with similar phones but this feature is not supported by the Greek cell phone companies. The main fact is wether you can find this model or not. It's successor is not as good though.

Good morning Michael

Hi Michael

It looks to me that you and I both 'log in' before going out to work each day.

I was late in bed last night as we had a party here in honour of mr 'Senior Membership'! I think that most of my posts have been questions as I am very keen to learn all about blow up boats (puff, puff).

Have a nice day.

Hi,

I use a special built waterproof bag for my mobile phone.

Although the material is like plastic and completely waterproof , it allows your voice to go through it.

It also has a nice cord. I usually hang the bag and the phone from my neck when cruising.

Regards

Dimitris

R310 car kit

I do have a car kit for an Ericsson R310. Actually bought it at the London Boat Show last year. Its a bit of a cheap and nasty affair but it works! The R310 has the same connectors as the T28 so maybe a pukka T28 car kit is the answer?

I also have an "Aquapack" plastic bag thingy which works pretty well but I have to say that I often can't hear clearly enough through it and end up taking the phone out of the bag.....which somewhat defeats the purpose!

Over the last few years I have managed to kill most of the Ericcson models plus a few Nokias. They all fester at the bottom connections. I now use a Siemens M40 which has now survived 9 months, 5 yacht races and RB4. It has rubber bung in the bottom which covers the connections, so providing you dont lose the bung it should be OK. BUT I dont think it would survive the Guiness test!

Aquapac now have a neat phone bag that allows the wire from the " hands free " kit ( mike and ear piece ) to come through the seal without compromising the water proofness .

Best wishes ,
