Looped Ratchet Straps for RIB & Trailer

Need some new ratchet straps so hold RIB to trailer. The ones with loops on the end. Any tips on what to buy / where to get them from? Have had a quick google and not found anything.

We usually get ours from Barnet Marine. Agree much prefer the loop type over hooks.

I get mine from DSM, but they are local (ish) to me. They will make you bespoke straps to your own spec. Not particularly expensive either. I have 3 custom ratchet straps with stainless ratchets tailored to boat/trailer. Cost me less than £100 iirc.

I'm not sure what size you are after but I tend to use this chap for stainless ratchet straps.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/rib-kit

I have some gert 5 tonne things (not stainless) to attach the boat to the trailer but it's easy on a Pac 22 as you can route the strap from the aft lifting eyes, through the port and stbd freeing ports and down to the trailer...or over the tubes.

You do know its actually illegal to secure a load to dedicated tie down hooks unless they are load rated. To be correct you should hook into holes in the chassis or wrap around the chassis not into welded rings or hooks.
Ridiculous I agree but thats the rules

Rib kit do straps with stainless ratchets. I have several sets - for the RIB and also for securing the sailing dinghies onto their trailer.

So if you buy a cheapie from Ebay you will most likely be legal. If you go all posh and have a bespoke stainless blinged up one made you will most likely be illegal.

Excellent

Lifted direct from the .gov web site

If loads are to be secured using webbing straps and/or chains, you need to make sure that they can be secured either:

directly to the chassis of the trailer

to rated attachment points

Rope hooks are not suitable attachment points. Straps and chains should not be used in the same assembly.

Err no.
You’ll have to try harder than that.
